    A schoolboy who took part in "terrifying" armed carjacking robberies has been locked up for six-and-a-half-years.

    The 15-year-old appeared at Bradford Crown Court with 20-year-old accomplice Waqas Hussain (pictured), who was jailed for 12 years in his absence after he absconded during the trial.

    A jury had convicted Hussain of five counts of robbery as well as possession of a firearm. Some of the offences, included a man being dragged from his car and tasered, another man was struck with a pick axe and a lady with a baby was threatened with a firearm.

    Waqas Hussain, of Fearnsides Terrace, Girlington in Bradford, was not present in court for the sentencing after absconding during the trial.

    Enquiries are continuing today, external to locate him.

  3. Family tribute on day of funeral for Manchester attack victim from Sheffieldpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    The family of Kelly Brewster who was killed in the Manchester suicide bombing in May has issued a statement on the loss of their ‘bright and bubbly’ daughter on the day of her funeral in Sheffield.

    In it, her family say she was looking forward to starting a family of her own and that they are devastated at losing her.

    They are the first act to be announced with confirmation of others expected soon.

    The festival in Ullapool will be marking its 13th year when it is held to a new format on 29 and 30 September.

    The company building the proposed high-speed rail line has apologised after surveyors working for it lost documents relating to homes on the Shimmer estate in Mexborough.

    Some of the houses there will have to be demolished to make way for the new line.

    The documents which showed house valuations, pictures of some houses and part of a resident's car number plate were left on a train.

    Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband says the breach by HS2's contractor is "totally unacceptable".

  10. Final tidy up of river bed beneath Tadcaster Bridge after floodspublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Work to tidy up the river bed beneath Tadcaster bridge is almost finished.

    Craven council say that stone left under and around the bridge after its collapse in December 2015 will be moved to create a "smoother and shallower river bed".

    The final tidy up begins on Monday and will last five days.

    The council will then look at installing streetlights onto the bridge.

    The Information Commissioner is reviewing whether to launch an investigation over a potential breach of data protection after surveyors working for HS2 lost documents relating to homes on the Shimmer estate in Mexborough.

    Sheffield Eagles chairman Chris Noble has criticised the Olympic Legacy Park committee for the time it's taking to decide who will build the stadium.

    Sheffield Eagles move back to Sheffield has been hit with further delays, external as the club awaits a decision from the Olympic Legacy Park and Sheffield City Council.

    The Eagles and their chosen backer are one of two primary bidders for the site. BBC Radio Sheffield understands that the Scarborough Group led by Kevin McCabe are the other - and they want to put a Blades Ladies team in there.

    Chris Noble says further delays could see the Eagles cease to exist and he believes the OLP team could have dealt with this far more swiftly.

    Don Valley MP Caroline Flint has joined criticism of Boots for refusing to drop the price of emergency contraception for women.

    There have been calls for a boycott of Boots after the chemist refused to lower the cost of the morning-after pill for fear it would encourage over-use.

    Rivals Tesco and Superdrug halved the price of the emergency contraceptive following a campaign from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), a leading provider of abortion care.

    The ex-boss of a flagship academy trust who quit amid a financial investigation has learned from his mistakes, his new school says.

    Welcoming Liam Nolan, The GORSE Academies Trust said it was a "non-judgmental employer".

    He will be principal at the trust's The Ruth Gorse Academy in Leeds from September.

    Mr Nolan had been running Birmingham's Perry Beeches Academy Trust.

    He had been feted by former prime minister, David Cameron, before the financial investigation.

    As chief executive there, he oversaw five schools before quitting in May 2016.

    A teenager studying in Sheffield is competing this morning in the 100m hurdles at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Italy.

    Alicia Barrett from Chesterfield was also recently crowned the 100m hurdles British Champion at the World Championships British Team Trials.

    As well as athletics the nineteen year old has just completed her first year of a history degree at Sheffield Hallam University .

  20. Family pay tribute to woman killed in fatal collisionpublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    The family of Melissa Whittington, who died in a fatal collision last week, have described her as a "beautiful angel" whose smile lit up a room.

    Melissa, who was 32, died after she was hit by a car on Friday.

    It happened on Healey Road in Ossett, West Yorkshire.

    In a statement, her parents paid tribute to their daughter.

    They said: "Our family and friends are absolutely devastated over the sudden, unexpected death of our beautiful daughter Melissa.

    "She was an amazing mother to four beautiful children and loving partner to Mark."
