    A plaque honouring a World War One soldier awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery and devotion to duty has been unveiled in Sheffield.

    Sgt Arnold Loosemore of the 8th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment won the medal on 11 August 1917 when he single-handedly engaged the enemy.

    He was one of seven Loosemore brothers from the city to serve in the war.

    The plaque at the Cenotaph is part of a national scheme to remember all World War One recipients of the medal.

    Police are hunting for two armed men who they believe have tried to kill rare birds of prey in North Yorkshire.

    What's thought to be the first pair of marsh harriers to begin breeding in the county for many years built a nest on Denton Moor.

    But two men with guns have been filmed (pictured) visiting the nest several times and are thought to have tried to shoot one of the birds before removing all the eggs.

    PC Bill Hickson, who is investigating the incident, said: "The video evidence provided by the RSPB shows illegal activity around a marsh harrier nest, and the activity shown speaks for itself."

    A hard-hitting virtual reality film is being used in South Yorkshire to encourage safer driving.

    The point-of-view simulation, at Thorne Fire Station in Doncaster, shows young viewers what it is like to be in a car accident, and then be cut out of the wreckage by a fire crew.

    A tanker which crashed through the central reservation on the M1 at J47 near Leeds yesterday afternoon caused hours of delays for drivers.

    Police want to speak to this man about a fire at a block of flats in Willey Street, just off the Wicker, in Sheffield in June.

    At around 06:35 on Tuesday 27 June, emergency services were called to the North Bank flats on Willey Street following reports of a fire.

    The sixth floor of the flats was evacuated and two residents were rescued by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews. No one was hurt during the incident but extensive damage was caused to the building.

    Officers believe the man pictured has vital information and they are appealing for anyone who may know him, or who witnessed the incident, to contact them.

    Planners are recommending that a proposed new asphalt plant near York should be given the go-ahead.

    Hundreds of people have objected to plans for the site at Hessay near the A59, worried about pollution, increased traffic and the impact they say it would have on greenbelt land.

    The company behind it says it's worked with the council to address these issues.

    City of York councillors will have the final say at a meeting next week.

    Niki Doeg, who lives in Hessay and is campaigning against the plant, says she hopes councillors listen properly to those against the plans:

    The doors of home furnishing retailer IKEA's new Sheffield store will officially open for business on Thursday 28 September, it's been confirmed.

    The firm has confirmed that all 380 jobs at the new store at Tinsley have now been filled, including posts in customer relations, sales, interior design and in the IKEA restaurant.

    An additional 100 jobs have also been created at a new call centre, the company says.

    Two teenagers suffered serious injuries after the motorcycle they were riding was in collision with a car in Bradford last night.

    It happened at about 21:45 as they were travelling along Dick Lane towards Dudley Hill when their bike was in collision with a red Seat Ibiza at the junction with Sutton Road (pictured).

    The riders, boys aged 15 and 16, were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man, was uninjured.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle in the time before the crash or who witnessed the collision itself to get in touch.
