Many supporters were taking plenty of pictures of their own, but these two went one step further:

If, like me, you looked up to the night sky on Saturday evening hoping to witness the Perseid meteor shower but saw nothing, perhaps these pics will help assuage your disappointment.

Thanks to Simon Scott and Nicole Carr for sending in their snaps of meteors shooting over Scarborough's North Bay early yesterday morning.

The Perseid meteor shower gave stargazers the opportunity to spot dozens of shooting stars in the sky.

Meteors are small fragments of debris and dust that enter the atmosphere at high speed, meaning they combust and produce a stream of light which can be seen trailing behind them.

Speaking after his side's 0-0 draw against Preston on Saturday, Christiansen told BBC Radio Leeds: "This is my impression and as coach, I want him to stay. We will see, but why should he go?"

Despite those words from the boss, fans are nothing if not thorough when it comes to football's rumour mill.

  15. Family of murdered school teacher 'committed to finding out the truth'published at 11:43 British Summer Time 14 August 2017

Lawyers representing the family of murdered Leeds school teacher Ann Maguire say they remain "committed to finding out the truth" about what happened on the day she was killed.

Today a legal challenge from her family, aimed at allowing pupils who witnessed the teacher being stabbed being called to give evidence, failed in the High Court.

Dismissing the claim for judicial review, the judge said: "I have much sympathy for the claimants, and I fully understand their reasons for wishing to pursue this line of inquiry.

"For the reasons I have given, however, I am unable to accept the submission that the assistant coroner reached a decision which was so seriously flawed as to be unreasonable."

A solicitor representing the family said they will assess their options following this latest ruling:

Ann Maguire’s family will now take stock and discuss the options with their legal team. They remain committed to finding out the truth and exactly what happened on the day Ann was killed through a thorough, open and fair process. They believe it is the only way that lessons will be learned from the incident."
