    The father of a man who was stabbed and died in Addingham fears the murderer - who is due to be released from prison and deported - could return to the scene of the crime.

    Mark Webster, 21, was stabbed and died outside the Fleece Inn in at Addingham, near Ilkley, in 2002.

    Leroy Griffiths was found guilty of his murder and is due to be released from prison at the weekend.

    The Home Office said: "Anyone subject to a deportation order is banned from re-entering the UK."

  4. Appeal for witnesses after man hit by carpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    South Yorkshire Police want to speak to any witnesses after a man was hit by a car on Knollbeck Lane in Rotherham on Wedneday, 16 August.

    The accident was around 20:30 when a green car hit a pedestrian at the junction with Chapel Avenue in the Brampton area of the borough.

    The 24-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

    The leader of North Yorkshire County Council's described the A64 through the county as a "disaster".

    Eleven people have been killed in crashes on the road in the last year, prompting renewed calls for both safety improvements and conversion to a dual carriageway.

    Conservative Council Leader, Carl Les, says progress is being made, albeit slowly.

  6. Tree felling legal appeal dropped after 'profound discussion'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    Earlier we brought you the news that campaigners aiming to stop tree felling in some areas of Sheffield will not be appealing against a High Court ruling preventing them from protesting.

    Dave Dillner from Sheffield Tree Action Group has told the BBC that they "have decided, after profound discussion, not to appeal" and have agreed costs with Sheffield City Council but these details cannot be disclosed as part of the agreement.

    Mr Dillner also added that "the campaign will continue apace though focusing along other directions" in the future.

    Workers on Arriva Rail North, the parent company of Northern rail, have announced another round of strikes over plans for driver-only trains.

    The RMT Union say workers will walk out over the first weekend in September.

  8. Man fined for being drunk in charge of a horsepublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    A man has admitted being drunk in charge of a horse and cart.

    Robin Milner, 49, of Pinfold Way, Sherburn in Elmet, was arrested near the Swan Hotel, Low Street, South Milford at around 20:00 BST on 30 July.

    He told York Magistrates' Court he had "participated in a few beers" at a christening earlier in the day and had not realised he had so many.

    Milner was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay £105 in costs.

    Magistrates told him they appreciated his guilty plea and the fact he had co-operated with the police when arrested.

    Milner, who represented himself in court, said he believed he had around four pints.

    His cart had scratched a man's car in the car park of the Swan Hotel and the two men were exchanging details when a police officer noticed the defendant appeared to be drunk.

    Sam Fell sent us this image of Elizabeth Drive, taken yesterday evening.

    According to Sam, a sewage drain overflowed on Wednesday before heavy rain on Thursday made the situation worse.

    Yorkshire Water say they have attempted to address the problem but they've apologised to residents as work has taken longer than first anticipated:

  10. Man suffers serious facial injuries in takeaway fightpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    A man has suffered extensive facial injuries in a fracas that took place in a Brighouse takeaway in the early hours of Sunday, it has emerged.

    Police say the incident took place between 01:00 and 01:30 inside Dino’s Pizza takeaway on Bethel Street.

    West Yorkshire Police said they understood that a man entered the shop to intervene in an ongoing argument.

    He then hit the victim in the face.

    The victim fell down and hit his head, leading to the serious injuries to his face.

    Officers want to speak to a bearded white man, believed to be in his 20s, in connection with the incident.

  11. Police crackdown on dumped cars in Selbypublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    Police and council officers are cracking down on drivers who dump their cars in the Selby district.

    There's a warning vehicles will be towed away if they're abandoned, and their owners could be fined up to £2,500.

    It's happening after a big rise in the numbers of cars being dumped, with Selby District Council saying they're a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour.

  14. Doncaster bin strike: No decision yetpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

    All morning we've been bringing you the latest on whether two five-day strikes over bin collections in Doncaster will go ahead or not . A decision is due later today.

    SUEZ is the company which has the contract for the town's collections and has released a statement in response to the dispute.

    The firm says that an ongoing public consultation into the sort of bin service people in Doncaster want will have an impact on the way its contract with the council is staffed when a new deal begins in 2018.

    The company has also begun a formal 90-day consultation period, so no details can be confirmed until this consultation period has concluded, according to SUEZ.

    A Scarborough man's been arrested following a police pursuit in Scarborough.

    The driver of a Renault Clio was stopped by officers yesterday, after the car he was driving was tracked by Automatic Number Plate Recognition to Weaverthorpe on the A64, where the car was abandoned.

    Officers pursued the driver on foot before making an arrest.

    A 20-year-old was arrested for driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, driving dangerously, failing to stop and obstructing a police officer.

    He is due to appear at York Magistrates this morning.

    Sheffield's Joe Root scored 136 in a partnership of 248 with opener Alistair Cook as England piled on the runs in the opening day of the first day/night test in England against the West Indies at Edgbaston.

    The England captain eventually fell to Kemar Roach as the floodlights began to take effect in Birmingham but the hosts are well and truly in charge having reached 348/3 at stumps.

    A community leader's blaming a lack of facilities and money for what police have described as an "astonishing" level of anti-social behaviour on an estate in York.

    Research carried out in Yorkshire is warning children who try e-cigarettes are more likely to start smoking for real.

    Experts from the University of Leeds claim they've found a "robust association" between vaping and cigarette smoking, and are now calling for further investigations into their statistics.

    They are also warning that vaping may make nicotine consumption seem normal among teenagers.
