    The 30-year-old was last seen in the city yesterday at 17:45 and was wearing blue jogging bottoms, black trainers and a grey hooded jumper.

    Barbara Boyce believes each Lord Mayor of York leaves his or her own stamp on the city and she wants her all-female civic party (pictured with natty name mugs) to leave theirs.

    York is a community "brimming with charities, community groups, hobby groups and local businesses doing incredible work", says Mrs Boyce.

    She says: "There are many important civic events in the diary every year which it is a great honour to attend, but we also want to reach out to community-based groups.

    "The Sheriff and I want to join these groups, to show support for the wonderful work they are doing and for the dedication of the individuals involved," she adds.

    A 12-year-old footballer from Sheffield who collapsed with internal bleeding is raising money for the city's Children's Hospital.

    Cameron Connor had a major operation at the hospital to stop an internal bleed three months ago and is now walking himself back to health.

    He's now taking part in a virtual marathon and has already doubled his original target of £350 after raising almost £500, external so far.

    A man from West Yorkshire who was caught up in the Manchester Arena suicide bombing says his family are still struggling to cope three months later.

    A total of 22 people died in the attack which took place at a concert by Ariana Grande on 22 May, including five people from Yorkshire.

    Gary Walker, from Leeds, and his wife Maria, were both injured while waiting to pick up their daughter and Gary had to lie with his injured wife for nearly an hour.

    The NHS has set up a dedicated mental health service for people affected by the attack, but Gary says more needs to be done:

    A camper van driver in York had a bad start or end to their holidays after getting stuck under this bridge in the city.

    The wedged camper caused "slight disruption" to traffic in Terry Avenue.

    A man from Bradford has been jailed for five years for sharing terrorist propaganda on social media.

    Sagheer Hussain, 39, of Bishop Street in Bradford, was found guilty yesterday following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

    Hussain had uploaded three videos to his Google+ account via his YouTube account which were supportive of so-called Islamic State.

    The videos had been seen more than 25,000 times before they were removed from the internet, even though he only had two followers.

    Plans for a green energy plant between Malton and Scarborough have failed to win the support of North Yorkshire County Council's planning officers.

    They say the planned 6,342 sq m plant, near Knapton, would be too big for the area's landscape.

    The company behind the scheme, Knapton Green Energy, says the plant would create green energy from non-recyclable waste that would otherwise go to landfill, incineration or be exported.

    It could produce enough electricity for 16,000 homes a year, the firm adds.

    County councillors are due to meet next week to decide on the application.

    The 22-year-old, the son of former Bantams forward John, spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

    A bin strike in Doncaster has been called off.

    The Unite union say they've agreed to call off a walkout, which was due to start tomorrow.

    They've been in dispute with the contractors SUEZ over pay and conditions.

    They're still unhappy about proposed redundancies and there'll be another meeting about that issue on Friday.

    Officers at West Yorkshire Police will start carrying spit guards from today.

    The mesh hoods stop people from biting or spitting when they're being arrested but they're not without controversy - some Human Rights groups have described them as "cruel and degrading".

    A BBC Freedom of Information (FoI) request revealed last year they were being used by 17 of the UK's 49 police forces, with four more considering their introduction.

    Since 2011 they have been used at least 2,486 times - in 635 cases on people with suspected mental health issues.

    Sara Ogilvie, policy officer at Liberty, said the "disturbing figures" showed "cruel, degrading and primitive spit hoods are being widely used".

    The Yorkshire force follows West Midlands Police who have already issued them to their front-line officers, they say in 2016, 231 officers were spat on.

    Assistant Chief Constable Russ Foster from West Yorkshire Police, said: “No police officer or member of police staff should be spat at or bitten."

    What are spit hoods?

    • Mesh fabric hoods placed over the heads of suspects to prevent spitting or biting.
    • They can only be used once and are usually used in custody suites or when moving people in custody from one location to another.
    • Critics say they are distressing, can cause panic, and make it harder to notice breathing difficulties.
    • They have been used on 91 people aged under 18 in the past five years.
    • North Wales Police reporting the use of a spit hood on a 12-year-old girl.

    Former England cricketer and BBC commentator Geoffrey Boycott has apologised for an "unacceptable" comment about West Indian cricketers.

    He said that he would be more likely to receive a knighthood if he was to "black his face".

    Boycott, 76, has now described his comments at a Q&A in Birmingham on Saturday as "clearly wrong".

    The Yorkshireman added, external that he loves West Indian cricket and has "the utmost respect for its players".

    Well last night more than 100 people attended a special screening of the film at the Light Cinema in Sheffield to celebrate the occasion.

    Selby District Council has defended plans to introduce parking charges in Tadcaster.

    It's after the the mayor told BBC Radio York the town council is united in opposing the proposals, saying they would be "another blow for the town" which is still recovering from the 2015 floods.

    Chapel Street and Britannia car parks are currently free, but the district council wants people to have an hour of free parking and then charge a £1 for three hours, or £3 for the whole day.

    Nottingham Forest have signed Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

    The 28-year-old ex-Chelsea trainee has only featured once this season, coming on in the EFL Cup win over Port Vale.

    Bridcutt, who has won two caps for Scotland, played for Brighton for four years after leaving the Blues.

    He made 25 league appearances for the Elland Road side last season after joining from Sunderland on a two-year deal in August 2016.

    The chief executive of the Magna centre in Rotherham has died at the age of 64.

    John Silker, joined the Magna Science Adventure visitor attraction in 2013.

    Mr Silker lived in Aston near Rotherham and leaves three daughters.

    The Magna science centre is on the site of Templeborough steelworks which was at one time the biggest steelworks in the world.

    Did you see a crash on Leeds' Inner Ring Road last night? Police say a teenage driver was seriously injured and they need witnesses to come forward.

    The crash happened at about 23:00 near the Westgate Tunnel when the teenager's grey Toyota Aygo hit a wall as she was driving from the Armley Gyratory direction.

    The 19-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and is still in hospital.

    Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses and information after eight vehicles were broken into in Harrogate in one night earlier this month.

    The offences took place between 00:30 and 01:10 on Tuesday 8 August in Bilton and Jennyfields and saw vehicles being broken into and power tools stolen.

    Officers are particularly interested in information about a dark coloured vehicle (pictured), possibly a Land Rover, which was seen acting suspiciously in the area.

    Anyone with any information about the incidents is being asked to contact police.

  20. Bradford-based Provident Financial's new profit warning as boss quitspublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    Doorstep lender Provident Financial, which is based in Bradford, has issued its second profit warning in months.

    It says it now expects to make losses of £80m to £120m, external as its debt collection rates have dropped to 57% compared with a previous rate of 90% in 2016.

    Provident recently changed the way it collected its loans, replacing self-employed agents with "customer experience managers".

    Its chief executive, Peter Crooke, has resigned.

    The company is undertaking "a thorough and rapid review of home credit's performance", and will not now pay the interim dividend it promised just a month ago.
