"Remember When" is based at the Frecheville Community Sports and Social Ground and is open six days a week.

Cafe founder Ruth Bartles says she discovered there weren't many suitable places for her 90-year-old grandmother, who suffers from short-term memory loss, to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Two City of York Council cabinet members have been asked to stand aside while an investigation is carried out into possible breaches of their code of conduct.

The substance of the allegations against Liberal Democrats Keith Aspden and Nigel Ayre is unclear at this stage.

Mr Aspden is deputy leader of the council and Mr Ayre is the executive member for culture and leisure.

Both men were asked to step aside by the Conservative leader of City of York Council, David Carr, while the investigation is carried out.

Mr Carr says: "Given the seriousness of the allegations...it's best for both councillors to step back from their executive duties at this time".

He spoke to BBC Radio York a short time ago:

The BBC is hoping to get a comment from both Keith Aspden and Nigel Ayre.

  9. From one car park to another: Could Richard III be on his way to York?published at 09:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

Remember when the remains of Richard III were found under a car park in Leicester in 2012 and he was eventually interred at the city's cathedral?

Descendants of his family later lost a legal challenge to have him reburied in York, saying he spent much of his youth in Yorkshire and he also governed the north of England on behalf of the King.

Well, it seems Richard might end up making a sort of homecoming to York if plans are approved today for a "pop-up" replica of a Shakespearean theatre - to be built on the site of yet another car park.

City councillors meet later to decide whether to give the go-ahead to plans for the theatre, which would be built at the Castle Car Park and be in place between May and September next year.

The plans, by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, would see performances of Richard III, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream over the course of 10 weeks next year.

York may have "battled in vain", as Shakespeare put it, to become the final resting place of Richard III, but it looks like he's going to end up in the city anyway.

  10. Listen: New 30-hour free childcare scheme 'won't work'published at 09:06 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

Today's the last day parents can register for the new government scheme which entitles them to 30 hours' free care for children aged three to four.

The scheme, which is based on a trial run in York, has been criticised for a lack of spaces and administrative problems.

A survey by the Pre-school Learning Alliance suggests 74% of the nurseries which responded feel the government has underfunded the scheme.

But the government says a record £6bn a year is being invested in childcare.

Karen Simpkin, from the Sunflower Children's Centre in Sheffield and chair of the Sheffield National Day Nurseries Association, says the scheme "won't work" as it stands:

The 6ft-long reptilian replica has been stolen from a house in Horsforth, and was a familiar sight for people who crossed Newlay Bridge.

It went missing on Monday, with thieves having to cut the bolt on a neighbour's gate to get hold of the life-sized croc.

The owners say there must have been two people to lift it because it's so heavy.

They're to be considered by Scarborough Borough Council's planning committee next week and council officers have recommended the plans be approved..

It's been some years since it was announced that engineering work needed to be carried out to stabilise the South Cliff slope.

It's in a bid to protect the Spa and about 400 properties from the risk of a landslip.

Council officers say it's an "unavoidable intervention" to secure the cliff and, if given the green light, will cost about £14m.

    Kid

But a national survey by the Pre-school Learning Alliance (PLA) claims three-quarters of childcare providers say their current funding won't cover the cost and some fear it could put them out of business.

The government says it's investing record amounts of money into childcare.
