  1. Operator chief hopes to bring Bradford Odeon back to former glorypublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Yesterday we brought you big news that the iconic Odeon building Bradford was set to re-open in 2020.

    The head of the company in charge of that development has said it wants to "help put the city on the map" for live entertainment.

    NEC, which runs two of the UK's busiest arenas, this week announced it is taking out a 30-year lease on the building, which developers hope will re-open as a music venue alongside other events.

    It will partner up with the charity Bradford Live, who was awarded the project to redevelop the derelict building by the city council in 2014.

    NEC's managing director, Phil Mead, said: "It's a fantastic building with great potential. Bradford Live have got great plans on pulling it together and using our expertise we think we can help them bring it to life.

  2. Investigations ongoing after Huddersfield fire deathpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Firefighters say investigations are ongoing into the cause of a fatal house fire in Huddersfield on Monday.

    Crews from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called out to Old Bank Fold, Moldgreen at 03:11 after a neighbour alerted emergency services.

    A 49-year-old man died in the fire which is not believed to be suspicious.

    Chair of the Fire Authority Councillor Judith Hughes said: “Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire and we are unable to speculate at this time as the full circumstances will be further investigated by the coroner."

    A failure of the electrical supply at London King's Cross is causing disruption to train services to and from the station.

    Trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes, cancelled or revised.

    Disruption is expected until 11:30.

    This affects Virgin East Coast, Hull Trains and Grand Central services.

    Virgin East Coast says it is due to a trapped train which is being rescued at the minute.

    Some good news this morning for people living in a village near York left without a bus service for weeks.

    One residents said it was making life very difficult, especially for older people:

    Operator Utopia Coaches went into liquidation last month leaving no replacement for Naburn.

    BBC Radio York has been told this morning the village will get a partial replacement service.

    John Bibby is from York Bus Forum and he says a service run by the county council will start on Monday.

    Labour MP for Leeds Central, Hilary Benn, says the government needs to admit its timetable for Brexit is unrealistic.

    Hilary Benn - who's head of the Commons Brexit committee - has been talking as Parliament prepares to debate the bill to take Britain out of the European Union.

    Opposition parties say they won't back the Repeal Bill as it stands, accusing the government of a "power grab".

    Earlier this week the government said it is ready increase the pace of Brexit talks, however Mr Benn says it's not possible for everything to be sorted out by the end of next year.

  7. Doncaster driver injured after aerosol 'spray' explosionpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    The driver of a car has been injured by an explosion after spraying an air freshener in his car and then lighting a cigarette.

    Fire crews from Edlington station in Doncaster were called to the scene on Sheffield Road in Conisbrough just after 09:00 on Saturday 26 August.

  9. Teenager due to be sentenced over Katie Rough deathpublished at 09:46 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    A teenager who killed a seven-year-old girl in York is due to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court later.

    The 16-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, admitted killing Katie Rough when she appeared at a hearing in July.

    The seven-year-old was found seriously injured near a playing field in York in January.

    She was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

  10. Yorkshire 'has cheapest pints in the country'published at 09:23 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    According to the Good Pub Guide,Yorkshire and Herefordshire have the cheapest pints in the country at £3.31.

    And for the first time Surrey has taken over London as the most expensive area to buy a drink, with the average pint costing £4.40.

    Other cheaper counties where drinkers have a reason to raise a glass include Shropshire at £3.33 a pint, Derbyshire at £3.36 and Cumbria and Worcestershire, both at £3.38.

    A whistleblower credited with exposing child sex abuse in Rotherham says there is nothing new from a series of reports into the council's handling of the scandal.

    Jayne Senior ran a youth project called "Risky Business" which worked with vulnerable under-age girls who who were being exploited by older men. She's now a Rotherham Councillor.

    Investigators did say it was a ''cock-up rather than a conspiracy'' at the council and the reports recommend no legal or disciplinary action.

    Hundreds of people gathered in Sheffield City Centre last night for a vigil and demonstration in support of thousands of Rohingya Muslims who have been forced to flee Myanmar in the last week.

    In Sheffield local Mosque leaders and councillors are calling for the Nobel Laureate and the country's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi to be stripped of the Freedom of the City over her lack of action.

    A caravan park owner says the sudden loss of a bus service has hit his business near York.

    Operator Utopia Coaches went into liquidation last month but there's been no replacement bus service for Naburn.

    Peter Wilkinson, who runs Naburn Lock Caravan Park, says some of his customers are going elsewhere.

    Survivors of the Rotherham abuse scandal have criticised a series of reports into failings at Rotherham Council.

    Investigators blamed poor record keeping and the refusal of some former staff to take part to explain why they were unable to find any individuals responsible.

    The report's author Mark Greenburgh said it was "more cock-up than conspiracy".

    One survivor she was unimpressed by them.

    There'll be no prosecution or disciplinary action against any senior officer or former members of the council.
