    It's one of North Yorkshire's busiest roads and over the next three days people are being given the opportunity to have their say over its re-routing.

    There are four options on the table for realigning the road at Kex Gill west of Harrogate - a stretch often affected by landslips.

    Th consultation events are taking place in Skipton today, Harrogate tomorrow and Washburn on Saturday.

    A CCTV image of a vulnerable 72-year-old missing Halifax woman has been released, in a bid to try to find her.

    Cathryn Holdsworth was last seen at Calderdale Royal Hospital on Friday 8 September, she was then picked up by CCTV the next day at Tesco in Halifax town centre.

    She wasn't reported missing until 19 September, when her neighbours raised concerns with the police who say they are now growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

    Officers say she may have some family in Cornwall and links to Blackpool.

    The family of a teenager who drowned in the canal at Victoria Quays in Sheffield is calling for improved safety measures in the area.

    19 year-old Alex Wilson went missing after a work night out in the city centre at the end of July.

    His body was found by police divers two days later.

    An anti-fracking demonstrator has been injured during protests in Ryedale today.

    The incident happened near to Kirby Misperton village, close to the site where Third Energy plans to frack for shale gas.

    North Yorkshire Police say the woman complained of shoulder and neck pain while being moved by officers. She has been taken to Scarborough Hospital for treatment.

    There's been a big increase in the number of people using food banks across North Yorkshire according to research by BBC Radio York.

    The number of people using the one in Selby, external has more than doubled in the last year - they say it could be down to changes in the benefit system.

    Meanwhile, Northallerton food bank has reported one of its busiest months on record.

    Police in Sheffield have hit back on social media after they closed a motorway this afternoon because of a dangerous petrol tanker.

    It was a safety measure, but some drivers have been abusive to officers after the road was reopened.

    A prostitute working in Leeds' "legal red light zone" has been the victim of an attempted serious sexual assault.

    It happened last Friday night at about 22:45 at the junction of Bridge Road and Czar Street in Holbeck.

    The 28-year-old woman was approached by a man who dragged her to a patch of grass.

    The woman managed to break free and ran to a passing vehicle for help.

    The man was described as white, about 5ft 11ins tall, aged 20 to 25, of skinny build with ginger stubble on his face and was wearing a black jumper with ‘Duffer’ written on the chest.

  11. Funding protest over Doncaster domestic violence charitypublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

    A Doncaster charity which helps thousands of women at risk of domestic violence find a safe refuge says it badly needs more cash to help keep going.

    Staff and supporters of Doncaster Women's Aid are expected to hold a protest in the town later claiming it faces the prospect of no more funding from the council.

    Doncaster Council has previously given the service £30,000 to help it get back up and running after it had to close for a period, but the authority says that award was a one-off.

    Campaigners claim the council has sufficient money to help out as it has about £97m in reserves.

  12. Sheffield man accused of terror offences to face trialpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

    A dental student from Sheffield has appeared in court charged with seven terrorism offences.

    Abdurahman Kaabar, 23, of Martin Street, Upperthorpe, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from HMP Belmarsh for a preliminary hearing.

    He's charged with three offences of possessing a record of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, and four offences of disseminating terrorist publications.

    He's been remanded in custody ahead of the next court date on 8 January 2018 and is due to stand trial at Leeds Crown Court on 5 February.

    Here's the scene of an accident on Selby road in Leeds this lunchtime.

    No passengers appear to have been waiting at the stop at the time, police say.

    A 26-year-old woman who was in one of two cars involved has been injured after the crash which happened at about 12:15.

    The road is currently closed eastbound near Irwin Approach.

    Tackling anti-social behaviour and improving property standards are the aims of a planned new scheme in Barnsley.

    It's known as "selective licensing" and under the proposed plan landlords would have to have licences in order to rent out a home.

    Consultation on the idea closes this week, external and, if it goes ahead, the first areas to have it will be on specific roads in Elsecar, Wombwell, Goldthorpe and Measborough Dyke.

    Plans to move one of North Yorkshire's busiest roads because of landslip fears are being discussed today.

    The first of three public events that will help decide where the A59 we be re-routed west of Harrogate is taking place.

    Officials from North Yorkshire County council have four options out for consultation that will see the road moved away from Kex Gill near Blubberhouses. The road between Skipton and Harrogate has a history of landslips.

    The most recent, in January 2016, led to the road being shut for eight weeks.

    When closed a diversion of more than six miles (10km) through towns unsuitable for the traffic is used.

    North Yorkshire County Council has strengthened the banks at the side of the road and improved drainage.

    Now four possible new routes for the road have been identified, with costs estimated between £33m and £40m.

  19. Extra day for Yorkshire's 'true success story'published at 11:41 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

    The Tour de Yorkshire is getting bigger, by an extra day next year, promising now four days of cycling competition to our region.

    More than two million people lined the streets of the race this year and perhaps more importantly bought £64m into Yorkshire's coffers.

    The Tour de France Director Christian Prudhomme said "The Tour de Yorkshire is a true success story and the way the race has grown over the last four years has been incredible."

    He added “The size and passion of the crowds has not just impressed me, but the cyclists too. Extending the race to four days will allow us to visit more parts of the county and put on an even greater show.”
