A 22-year-old man's been charged with grievous bodily harm after a police officer was left in a critical condition following an attack in Doncaster earlier this week.

The assault happened in Hexthorpe at about 08:00 on Tuesday morning and left the policeman, who's 45, with serious head injuries. He's now in a stable condition in hospital.
As well as being charged with GBH, the man, of no fixed abode, is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, aggravated vehicle taking without consent, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, as well as two counts of robbery and two counts of possessing a knife.
A 24-year-old man from Conisbrough has also been charged with robbery in connection with the incident.
Both men have been remanded into custody and are due to appear at Barnsley Magistrates' Court later this morning.
A woman who was also arrested at the time has been released with no further action taken by police.
