    Police want to speak to these men after their pictures were found on a mobile phone at the site of a burglary.

    The phone was found at Jonah’s Fishing Tackle on Top Road in Barnby Dun, Doncaster, earlier this month.

    Anyone who thinks they know who the men are is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 253.

    Friends and colleagues have paid tributes to Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn who died aged 77.

  3. Sex attacker targets woman on York cycle pathpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    A woman walking down a cycle track in York has been sexually assaulted.

    It happened at about 20.50 on Sunday in the city's Tang Hall area.

    The victim, a woman in her 20s, was walking through the tunnel under Melrosgate, towards James Street, when she first noticed a man edging towards her as she walked past him.

    During the attack the woman pulled her attacker's hair, bit his thumb and hit him in the face, then ran away towards Morrisons supermarket.

    The man ran off in the opposite direction along the cycle path.

    He is aged 19-20 years old, 6ft 2/3" with mousy brown, ear length, messy hair with a sweeping fringe.

    A man who uses the drug fentanyl has been explaining what it does and why he takes it.

    He spoke to BBC Radio York as one drug dealer from the city who made huge sums of money using a hidden layer of the internet called the dark-web starts his 13 years and eight months behind bars.

    Ross Brennan was sentenced at York Crown Court after admitting a conspiracy to import and distribute fentanyl, which is up to 100 times stronger than heroin.

    His accomplice, Aaron Gledhill, was jailed for almost four years.

  7. Police continue to search for missing man in murder inquirypublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Police are continuing to search for the body of a missing Denholme man who hasn't been seen for 20 days.

    Officers say they're continuing an underwater search for 29-year-old Tyron Charles at Doe Park in Denholme and on land on Oxenhope Moor.

    Det Ch Insp Jim Griffiths said "We have not received any recent reported sightings of Mr Charles and this sustains our belief that he has come to serious harm."

    James Sutcliffe, 28, of Hill Crest View has been charged with the murder of Mr Charles who was reported missing on 6 September.

    Spiders - massive ones - have suddenly started to appear in our homes, so much so that one post on a Leeds Facebook group about them today has attracted a lot of attention.

    So why have they suddenly decided to move into the living room/bathroom/bedroom of your house?

    The answer's actually more romantic than you think, they're looking for love.

    The spiders, which can grow up to 12cm in length, are heading indoors to find a dry place to mate.

    Despite the name, house spiders more commonly live in sheds and gardens.

    Stuart Hine, insect specialist at the Natural History Museum said "they can give you a nip if you pick them up" but they are not harmful to humans.

    Police in Bradford say they want to speak to this man after a woman was raped.

    Nicolae Fratutescu is 47-years-old and officers want to find him over the allegations which are of a "serious nature".

    The offence is alleged to have taken place in May 2016.

    The Romanian national is also known to wear glasses.

  10. Tractors block road at anti-fracking protestpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Three tractors blocked the road at the Kirby Misperton fracking site in Ryedale earlier.

    The tractors arrived at about 10:00 this morning and were parked by farmers in the middle of the road leading to the site.

    The farmers honked the tractor horns and gave speeches showing support for the anti-fracking protesters.

    They also displayed a placard with the phrase "farmers against fracking" written on it.

    Matt Trevelyan (pictured) is one of the farmers involved in today's demonstration. He says there are "many reasons" to oppose the drilling operation:

    There've now been five days of demonstrations since Third Energy started moving equipment needed for fracking onto the site in Ryedale.

    Yesterday's protests saw six people arrested, as activists locked themselves into a concrete filled barrel near the gates.

    Today's demonstration is part of a series of protests taking place at the site, where Third Energy was granted permission to frack in 2016.

    The company is attempting to move equipment onto the site because it anticipates getting final permission to frack before the end of the year.

    Opponents say fracking can cause water contamination, earthquakes and noise and traffic pollution.

    But Third Energy say the area would benefit from the work.

  11. First woman given ancient hornblower rolepublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    A female hornblower has set the watch in a North Yorkshire town for the first time in centuries of the traditional ceremony.

    The hornblower has set the watch in the city every night since 886, by blowing a horn at the four corners of the obelisk in Market Square at 21:00 BST.

    The horn is then blown three times outside the mayor's house.

    Ripon City Council advertised for a new recruit and took on Allison Clark and Richard Midgley in a job share.

    Mrs Clark said: "It's a great honour and really nice to be keeping this tradition alive in this lovely city."

    The tradition is said to go back to when Alfred the Great visited Ripon and gave a horn to the city as a symbol of it being granted a Royal Charter.

    The original horn is kept in the town hall.

    A man from Doncaster who raped a child in the 1990s has been jailed for fifteen years.

    Mehmood Hussein, formerly of Glyn Avenue in Doncaster, was cleared at Sheffield Crown Court of offences against one person but convicted of a number of offences , externalincluding three counts of rape of a girl under 16-years-old, two counts of rape of a woman over 16-years-old and two counts of indecent assault of a girl under 14-years-old.

    Leeds-born Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn, who played Vera Duckworth in the soap for more than 30 years, has died.

    The 77-year-old died at her home, surrounded by her family, on Monday night, according to a statement from ITV.

    Born Sylvia Butterfield in 1939, Liz was the third of five children and was educated at St Patrick's School followed by Leeds City Girls School.

    At 16 she left school and did various jobs, being cast in a commercial for a chocolate bar led to more job offers and in 1974 Liz took her most famous role as much-loved machinist Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street.

    For three decades she was one of the most recognisable faces on TV and formed a formidable partnership with her on-screen husband Jack (Bill Tarmey) and didn't leave the soap until 2008.

    In 2000 Liz was chosen as Lady Mayoress of Leeds alongside a cleaner and a care worker, and set up the Liz Dawn Cancer Appeal which raised £700,000 for St James’s Hospital.

    A crash has left the Parkway from the M1 into Sheffield completely blocked since this morning's rush hour.

    Several cars were involved in the crash and police now say the road going into the city is to remain closed to all including emergency services until 1300.

    More than 50% of Northern Rail services will have to be cancelled because of planned strike action next month, the train operator has warned.

    Members of the RMT union are due to walk out on 3 and 5 October in a long-running dispute over the role of guards and driver-only trains.

    The company, which operates across the North East, North West and Yorkshire, said it aimed to run about 1,200 services - 46% of its normal timetable., external

    Drivers are being warned of much heavier than normal traffic around a new Ikea store which opens on Thursday in Sheffield.

    Leeds actress Liz Dawn, who played Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street, has died aged 77.

    Her family said they were "devastated and heartbroken" after the death of the "incredible" 77-year-old.

    They added: "She has been the love, light and inspiration in our lives and we are bereft at her passing."

    Dawn died at her home, surrounded by her family, on Monday night, according to a statement from ITV.
