The towel has been thrown in by campaigners who've been fighting to save Grimethorpe Hall in Barnsley.
A local group, external has been campaigning to rescue the Grade ll listed hall, but legal wrangles mean they've failed. Their hope was to buy it for a nominal fee from the Crown, which owns it, and turn it into a centre for forces veterans.
Now they say all efforts have been thwarted and it's time to end their campaign.
Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Wakefield last night.
Officers were called at about 22:13 to Newstead Lane, Fitzwilliam, after a grey Citroen Xsara hit a railway bridge barrier.
The vehicle was being driven along B6428/Hemsworth Lane in the direction of Havercroft.
The driver of the Citroen, a man in his 20s, is being treated in hospital for serious injuries .
The car had been travelling with a black Vauxhall Astra at the time of the incident and a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision.
Police say they would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or either car the area prior to the crash.
Five anti-fracking protesters have been charged with offences at Kirby Misperton following arrests at the site yesterday.
Officers made six arrests at the site entrance.
A 61-year-old man was released with no further action and a 56-year-old woman has been charged with obstructing a police constable.
Four women aged 35, 36, 54 and 62 have been charged with "wilfully obstructing a highway" and "besetting a place to compel the abstention of a lawful act*.The five people who have been charged will appear at York Magistrates Court next month.A total of 18 people have been arrested at the site so far. Two were released with no further action, two accepted cautions, and the other 14 are due to appear at court.

A man's in a critical condition after a van and a motorbike collided in Cudworth.
The 19-year-old's Yamaha and a white van crashed on Snydale Road at its junction with Saxon Street.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident on Sunday evening.
Police want to speak to these two men after a man was robbed of his bank cards and phone at a skate park in Shipley.
It happened at Crowgill Park where the 30-year-old man suffered cuts and bruises during the robbery.
A man tried to use one of the stolen cards in a shop in Manningham Lane on the same day as the attack.

Organisers say that after being hit by bad weather last month they'll now rest the ground for a year and reassess the event.
They are though keen to welcome volunteers who are would like to be involved in the new-look show in 2019.

A team from motorcyling's governing body will visit Oliver's Mount in Scarborough next month to try to determine what caused two riders to crash into crowds at the weekend.
Several spectators were injured in the two crashes, along with two of the riders.
The Auto Cycling Union was already planning to visit the site as part of regular safety checks, but the group's General Secretary, Gary Thompson, says this trip will be different:
Protesters say farmers will be joining an anti-fracking demonstration in North Yorkshire later.
There've now been five days of demonstrations since Third Energy started moving equipment needed for fracking onto the site in Ryedale.
Yesterday's protests saw six people arrested, as activists locked themselves into a concrete filled barrel near the gates.
It's part of a series of protests taking place at the site at Kirby Misperton, where Third Energy was granted permission to frack in 2016.

Ryanair has cancelled thousand of flights over what chief executive Michael O'Leary called a "a major boo boo" over the allocation of pilots' leave.

The Soyuz capsule is part of an exhibition at the newly renamed National Science and Media Museum which opens tomorrow.
It's hoped it'll attract large visitor numbers - and help the museum achieve its aim of becoming a top international attraction.
The MOBO Awards are set to take place again in Leeds this year - the 22nd celebration of urban music.
The awards show will take place on Wednesday 29 November at Leeds Arena and is the second time MOBO has hosted the awards in the city.
Organisers say that the previous ceremony in 2015, was the fastest selling arena show in recent years.
The MOBO Organisation was founded in 1996 to champion urban music genres in the mainstream music industry.

The fight to save one of Barnsley's oldest buildings has been dealt a blow.
Grimethorpe Hall was built in the 1600s and over recent years a local campaign group have been trying to raise funds and awareness to prevent it from becoming a total ruin.
However, the team is finally throwing in the towel.
Despite numerous campaigns to save the grade II listed building, including the involvement of councils, MPs and Historic England, efforts to breathe life back in to it by the Save Grimethorpe Hall group, are now officially coming to an end.
