Emergency services were called to the Area nightclub on Burgess Street at about 02:20 on Sunday after reports that two men, aged 28 and 33-years-old, had been stabbed. They suffered serious injuries but are now said to be recovering well in hospital.

Ch Supt Shaun Morley says: "South Yorkshire Police will need to be absolutely satisfied that the club's management have made significant changes to structures and processes around security and ID."

Extra police patrols are operating in Sheffield city centre following this incident on Sunday and two other stabbings which happened on Saturday night.

  3. High Court bid for teacher who claims homosexuality is 'sin'published at 09:12 British Summer Time 3 October 2017

A High Court judge is set to consider the case of a religious education teacher who was thrown off a University of Sheffield course after saying on an online discussion that homosexuality was a sin.

Felix Ngole, from Barnsley, says he was lawfully expressing a traditional Christian view and has complained the university unfairly stopped him completing a postgraduate social work degree.

A judge is due to analyse his claims at the High Court in London during a two-day trial starting later.

Sheffield University says the decision to remove Mr Ngole, who's originally from Cameroon, was fair and proportionate.

University bosses said he was taking a "professionally qualifying degree" with the aim of becoming a social worker and argued what he said would affect gay people he might work with.

Farooq Shaik's pregnant wife left their home in Leeds to see family in India a year ago and he expected to join her shortly after, but a decision on his application was still pending.

He began the process 12 months ago after living and working in the UK for 10 years but said he was eventually turned down over a tax discrepancy. He is now appealing.

"They rejected it because they say my income isn't genuine even though I have paid my taxes for the past 10 years and have proof which I've sent to them," he said.

The government said complex cases take "longer to process".

The airline, which stopped trading yesterday, was the third biggest operator at Leeds-Bradford.

The collapse of Monarch has led to nearly 1,900 job losses and the cancellation of all its flights and holidays.

The Civil Aviation Authority has chartered aircraft for those stranded abroad, with flights returning 110,000 passengers from overseas expected to cost about £60m.

The collapse of the 50-year-old company is the largest ever for a UK airline.

  11. Green Party leader to join Kirby Misperton fracking protesterspublished at 07:18 British Summer Time 3 October 2017

Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley is expected to join protesters at the gates of a site in North Yorkshire where fracking is due to get under way by the end of this year.

    Frack

The Greens say fracking - the process of drilling into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at rock to release gas inside - is a "dangerous and unnecessary" industry.

But Third Energy, which is preparing to frack for shale gas at Kirby Misperton in Ryedale, says the process is safe.

There have been 28 arrests since protests began at the site as fracking equipment started to be moved in.

A group known as Farmers against Fracking, whose members joined the demonstrations a week ago, says it will hold a harvest festival at the site gates later.

Hello and welcome to BBC Local Live in Yorkshire on Tuesday 3 October 2017.

We'll be with you until 18:00 with all the latest news, weather, travel and sport updates from across Yorkshire.

The mix of sunshine and rain has meant we've received a host of cracking rainbow pics over the last 24 hours.

I've chosen to start today with this one over Sheffield railway station - perhaps we should call it a a railbow!:

    Railbow

You might notice the sky inside the arch of the rainbow is brighter than the sky outside of it.

A meteorologist colleague told me that's because raindrops scatter sunlight into the opposite part of the sky to form a circular disc of light there... They do say a day without learning is a day wasted!
