Mrs Cox, 41, was shot and stabbed in Birstall, part of her Batley and Spen constituency, in June last year.

Her sister, Kim Leadbeater, is expected to cut a ribbon to officially open the new facility which is part of the college's anti-hate crime campaign which starts today.

Ms Leadbeater says it's vital the good work of her sister is continued.

"We've had many kind and thoughtful gestures where people have wanted to create something as part of Jo's legacy," she says.

"It's wonderful this idea's come from the students and that they want to do something to remember Jo. That's really special and really important."

  4. New felling plan for tree at centre of protest in Sheffieldpublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Tom Ingall
    Journalist, BBC Look North

A landmark Sheffield tree is due to be felled over the next day or so, despite protests from local residents.

The tree, in Dore, which is known as the Vernon Oak, has been in the news a lot this week as campaigners try to save it, saying it's still healthy and a big asset.

Earlier this week, one protester climbed the tree to prevent it being cut down, but a new sign on the tree indicates plans to fell it either today or tomorrow:

Sheffield City Council has previously been to court in an effort to prevent tree-felling working being disrupted.

As part of Streets Ahead, an ongoing £2bn project to improve roads and footpaths in Sheffield, about 5,500 trees have been cut down since 2012.

The authority insists those earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory" but campaigners say some healthy trees have also been lost.

However, campaigners claim many of the trees classed as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which should not be cut down.

  5. Watch: North Yorkshire kestrel keeps on clutching during windy weatherpublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Abigail Davies
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

Things got a little bit "hawk-ward" for one kestrel during the windy weather in North Yorkshire on Monday.

This bird was caught on camera by Robert E Fuller, an artist in Thixendale, during Storm Ophelia:

Kestrels, also appropriately known as "windhovers", have the ability to keep their heads totally still while hovering, even in strong winds. This allows them to pinpoint and catch small mammals by sight alone.

However, it was clearly a bit more difficult during this Monday's storm force winds.

The video by Mr Fuller (pictured) is part of his research into how animals and birds cope in extreme weather.

It's for an exhibition at his gallery this November.

Mozley's novel, Elmet, is set in Yorkshire and tells the story of a family living on the margins of society who build a house for themselves on land they don't own.

The judges said of Elmet: "Timeless in its epic mixture of violence and love, it is also timely...with no punches pulled."

    Quote Message

It was definitely influenced by home...and a kind of wistfulness for this part of the world."

    SurgeonsImage source, Stockvisual

Government targets say 95% of patients should be seen within four hours, but more than half of the hospital trusts in Yorkshire failed to meet these government targets.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of 12 in England which have failed to meet a single one of its waiting time targets for A&E, cancer and planned operations at any point in the last year:

    Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Meanwhile, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation trust was one of the better performers:

These findings are revealed as the BBC launches its online NHS Tracker project.

You can see how your local hospital trust is performing on three key waiting time targets:
