Full steam ahead? Not-so-Flying Scotsman stopped in its trackspublished at 08:59 British Summer Time 19 October 2017
Things didn't go quite to plan yesterday as Yorkshire's record-breaking Flying Scotsman, the world's most famous steam locomotive, was halted while on a trip to East Anglia.
The locomotive was due to travel from York to Norwich but was stopped at Peterborough, with trip organisers saying the loco's driving axle box was found to be "running slightly warm".
They say it's only the second time the Flying Scotsman, which was built in Doncaster and which is kept on display at York's National Railway Museum, has had problems since returning to service in 2016.
Built in 1923, the Flying Scotsman soon became the star of the British rail network, pulling the first train to break the 100mph barrier in 1934.
The National Railway Museum in York said it would provide an update following an inspection of the engine.
