Officers were called to Newcastle House, Barkerend (pictured) to a report an 18-month-old had suffered life threatening injuries.

Police say emergency services attended and it "quickly became apparent a child had died at the scene" after falling from a window on the 6th floor.

Det Supt Nick Wallen said: “This is clearly an extremely traumatic incident and specially trained officers are working to support the child’s family members and those who witnessed what took place."

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, but would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened.

West Yorkshire Police say tackling crime in Huddersfield is one of their key priorities.

Huddersfield MP, Barry Sheerman, says the town is no worse than anywhere else and Superintendent Oz Khan says the improved police presence has not been brought about by any recent violence:

  3. Listen: 'It could be you' in Harrogate - Town setting up own lotterypublished at 08:56 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

The town of Harrogate could soon have its own lottery, which charities and community groups say would help ease pressure on some of the services they offer.

Tickets would be sold by Harrogate Borough Council and at least 60% of the money raised would go towards good causes.

The scheme is currently waiting for approval by councillors.

Frances Elliot is from Harrogate Easier Living Project, which supports older and vulnerable people who want to stay in their own homes.

She says demand for services throughout the community and voluntary sector is increasing 'massively at the moment' and a new source of funding would be a huge help:

  5. Leeds scientists develop antibiotic resistance toolpublished at 08:23 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

A team of scientists in Leeds has created a device which could help in the fight to stop antibiotics from losing their ability to fight bacteria.

    ScientistImage source, University of Leeds

Experts claim antibiotic resistance could lead to ten million deaths every year by 2050.

The device made by scientists at Leeds University will tell a doctor whether an infection is viral or bacterial, so they know whether or not it's worth prescribing antibiotics.

Public Health England says up to a fifth of antibiotic prescriptions are unnecessary as many illnesses get better on their own.

Overusing the drugs is making infections harder to treat by creating drug-resistant superbugs.

It's the 150th anniversary of Sheffield Wednesday today and to celebrate the football club has a new home shirt.

But not everyone's enamoured with the new strip and some fans say they're going to boycott it because of the price.

Supporters are being asked to pay £49 for an adult shirt if they buy it before November 30th. After that date it's £59.

Here's what some of the fans think:

The team's website describes the shirt as having a "three-button down placket, showcases a striking royal blue body with white sleeves."

So far Sheffield Wednesday have declined to comment on the price of the shirt.

The Settle-Carlisle line, which crosses the Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines, was forced to close in February 2016, after erosion caused 500,000 tonnes of earth to become dislodged at Armathwaite.

As part of the final phase of Network Rail's £23m repair work, 20,000 tonnes of "rock armour" is being packed into the banks of the River Eden.

This will protect the line from erosion caused by future heavy rainfall.

In addition to the "rock armour", silt booms and new drains have been installed into the foot of the embankment.
