    An 81-year-old woman has been pushed over and had her handbag stolen in Todmorden.

    Police are looking for two people who could hold vital information.

    The attack happened last Wednesday on Harehill Street at about noon, when she was walking on the pavement.

    A man came up behind her and pushed her over and took her handbag and ran off towards Pennine Care Home Gardens.

    Officers say that two people were walking near the Jacks House pub and they could have vital information which could help.

    A-boards are to be banned in Bradford, after a vote in support of the move by councillors this morning.

    Disability groups say they can make it hard for people with mobility issues to get around.

    A trial ban's been in operation in places including Ilkley and Saltaire - but will extend to the whole district from April next year.

    The widow of a man who tried to stop the murder of MP Jo Cox has received the George Medal on his behalf.

    Bernard Kenny was stabbed as he intervened when Thomas Mair attacked Mrs Cox in Birstall, West Yorkshire in June 2016.

    The 79-year-old died of cancer in August, two months after he was honoured for his bravery, his widow Doreen Kenny was presented with the award by the Queen during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

    That's right, it's only November - early November at that - but one Leeds grandmother has pulled out all the stops out already and her son took to social media to show the world.

    Gavin Pritchard posted the photo on Facebook and says that his mum is always up before anyone else on the big day blasting out the Christmas tunes and getting the dinner ready.

    Bootham Crescent has been chosen to host the England Under-18s Schoolboys International game against Scotland.

    The game will take place on Friday 23 March next year and forms part of the Centenary Shield competition.

    The Marine Accident Investigation Branch and North Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation after a man fell from a fishing boat and later died.

    Police were contacted by HM Coastguard at 12:23 yesterday to assist a boat off the coast of Scarborough.

    One of the crew from the fishing boat, a man aged in his 40s from Scarborough, had gone overboard into the sea. He was rescued from the water and received medical assistance at the scene before being flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he was pronounced dead. Police say they are not yet able to name the man who died.

  7. Leeds teenagers arrested over Harrogate house burglariespublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2017

    Three 16-year-old boys from Leeds have been arrested after two burglaries in Harrogate overnight.

    Police say the first call came in at 00:30 when a a burglary on Hawes Road was reported and while they were investigating that incident a further call came in about "suspicious activity".

    Officers went to the second home on Leyland Grove and found that it had been broken into and a car had been stolen - they chased and arrested one suspect on foot.

    The other two suspects were then found after the car was tracked and followed along the A61 to Leeds.

    All three are being questioned by police.

    World number 1, Mark Selby (pictured above) begins the defence of his title against Egypt’s Basem Eltahhan on Wednesday 29 November, while last year's beaten finalist Ronnie O'Sullivan plays Rhys Clark.

    The tournament, which features 128 players, includes all of Yorkshire's top professionals including Paul Davison from Pickering, Doncaster's Chris Keogan, Adam Duffy from Sheffield, Sanderson Lam, David Grace and Peter and Oliver Lines from Leeds plus York's Ashley Hugill.

    Customers have given their reactions after a tea-room on the North Yorkshire coast was forced to change the name of one of its cakes after being threatened with legal action by Betty's.

    The Harrogate-based chain owns the trademark to the fruity cake Fat Rascal.

    Now, Whitby's Sandgate Cafe has had to rename its version to Whitby Fatties.

    Betty's says it's nothing personal, adding that it has a trademark on a product and it's simply protecting the name.

    Police say they've now found an eight year-old girl who'd gone missing from home in Sheffield this morning.

    Una-May Howarth Currie was found at the Meandowhall shopping centre.

    Police are thanking the public for their help.

    The group behind big plans to redevelop land, external behind York railway station has announced its preferred route to gain access to the area.

    The York Central Partnership is proposing a new access road from the west at Water End into the York Central site.

    The decision has been made based on advice and feedback from a consultation.

    The proposals will now go before the senior councillors for consideration next week.

    Police say they're extremely concerned for her welfare.

    They think she was wearing an orange wool jacket, grey and pink training shoes and carrying a leopard print bag.

    A Poppy Appeal box has been stolen from a hotel in York.

    Police have issued CCTV images of a man they want to identify following the theft of the box which was taken from the foyer of the Premier Inn on Blossom Street.

    It was taken last Thursday morning and contained an unknown amount of cash.

    A six-month consultation will now be held as Calderdale Council looks to save £160,000 from its libraries budget by 2020.

    A man's due to appear in court later charged with resisting a police officer in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire.

    The 43-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon on Habton Road.

    It's the 67th arrest as part of a police operation connected to protests near a site run by Third Energy where fracking is expected to start shortly.

    Hydraulic fracturing is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at rock to release the gas inside.

    Two men have been jailed for supplying class A drugs in Keighley.

    Imran Hussain (left), 27, and Akaf Hussain (right), 31, both of Malsis Road, Keighley, were jailed for four years and two months and three years and four months respectively.

    Police say they worked from information from the public to arrest them as part of an operation which has seen 20 men jailed as part of a crackdown on the drugs supply chain in the town.

    The men were jailed at Bradford Crown Court after an operation which had been running since January.

  19. Extra funds towards fire safety in Calderdalepublished at 10:21

    An extra £0.5m is to be invested across Calderdale to help protect people from fire in their homes.

    The money was approved last night by the council's cabinet, which has reviewed fire safety after the Grenfell Tower disaster in London.

    Police believe at least 80 people died when fire engulfed the tower block in North Kensington, west London, in the early hours of 14 June.
