  1. Man arrested after body found in road in Bradfordpublished at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2017

    A man's been arrested following the discovery of another man's body on a Bradford road late last night.

    Officers were called to the scene on the A650 Shipley Airedale Road, close to the junction with Barkerend Road, at about 23:50 on Tuesday

    The male, who's believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Enquiries suggest he'd been hit by a car, according to police.

    A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he remains in custody. A vehicle has also been recovered.

    The road remains closed while forensic officers continue to investigate the scene.

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

    Jobs are at risk in West Yorkshire after the announcement that Palmer and Harvey, the largest wholesaler for the UK convenience market, has gone into administration.

    This will affect about 2,500 staff at the firm's head office and across several regional sites, including its depot in Leeds.

    Its customers range from small local corner stores to the UK's largest supermarkets and its distribution centres supply up to 12,000 product lines.

    The firm's administrators, PwC, say they're "continuing to explore options" for a sale of P&H Direct Van Sales and P&H Snacksdirect, which have a joint site on the Broadfield Business Park in Sheffield.

    Employees at that site have been retained, according to PwC.

    The news that Sheffield's Ski Village is to rise from the ashes as a new "nationally significant" ski centre is being welcomed by local residents.

    The site, in the Parkwood Springs area, opened in 1988 but was destroyed by fire in 2012.

    It's now to get a huge cash boost to give it a new lease of life with the ski slopes being rebuilt in the project's first phase.

    More on the news that police have charged a 15-year-old boy following a crash in Leeds at the weekend in which five people died.

    Ellis Thornton-Kimmitt, 12, Elliot Thornton-Kimmitt, 14, Darnell Harte, 15, Robbie Meerun, 24, and Anthony Armour, 24, all from Leeds, were fatally injured when a black Renault Clio hit a tree in Meanwood at about 22:00 on Saturday.

    The teenager, who can't be named for legal reasons, has been charged with five counts of death by dangerous driving.

    He's due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court later.

  7. Traffic and travel: Problems on A1(M) near Scotch Cornerpublished at 08:11 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2017

    Just a reminder that the A1(M) southbound remains closed and there's queueing traffic due to a fuel spillage and serious accident near Scotch Corner.

    The affected area is between J56 B6275 Hang Beck (Barton) and J55 A66/A6108 (Scotch Corner).

    The road is fully closed following the release of trapped traffic at J55.

    It comes after a lorry hit the barrier separating the exit slip road and the main carriageway at J55.

    No official diversion route has been set up.

    The annual MOBO Awards return to Leeds tonight for the 22nd annual celebration of the best in urban music.

    The show is due to take place at the First Direct Arena and will be the second time MOBO has hosted the awards in Leeds.

    It follows the show in 2015 which was the fastest selling arena event in recent years.

    Politicians in Harrogate are due to discuss later where nearly 15,000 new homes will be built over the next 20 years.

    The Borough Council has laid out its vision for the town with the publication of its Local Plan.

    Current proposals include 3,000 new homes which would form a "new settlement" at Green Hammerton, which is halfway between Harrogate and York.

  15. North Yorkshire fatal crash victim namedpublished at 06:48 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2017

    A man who died in a collision in North Yorkshire at the weekend has been named as 77-year-old Raymond Parkinson, from Hartlepool.

    The crash happened at about 15:30 on Sunday on the A66 near West Layton in Richmondshire and involved a white Renault HGV, a silver Seat Ibiza and a black Nissan Qashqai driven by Mr Parkinson.

    The driver of the HGV, a 33-year-old man from Motherwell, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
