A police officer from Yorkshire, who held on to a van to stop it falling as it teetered on the edge of a motorway bridge near Bramham says he was just doing his job.

PC Martin Willis was first at the scene of the crash, 40ft above the A64, where he found the driver trapped inside with two broken legs and the vehicle "swaying in the wind".

The officer had to hold the vehicle for 15 minutes to stop it falling onto the A64 link road.

Known as Motorway Martin, he said the van wasn't actually "that heavy to hold" but added he couldn't "begin to describe his relief" when firefighters arrived:

The charity, Bradford Live, was awarded the project to redevelop the derelict building by the city council in 2014.

The former cinema is being rebuilt as a 4,000 capacity music venue.

NEC Group, which runs the National Exhibition Centre and other venues in Birmingham, will contribute £2m towards the project.

A report going before councillors recommends approving the loan - despite the authority announcing extra cuts to services last week - and says the site would be unviable without it.

The proposal, part of a planned "clean air zone", would affect older vehicles travelling within the Outer Ring Road.

No charges are currently planned for private vehicles.

The plan, which requires government approval, would hit vehicles that do not meet minimum engine standards and could start as early as October 2018.

Proposed daily charge for non-compliant vehicles

    • Buses/Coaches - £100
    • HGVs - £100
    • Taxi and private hire - £12.50

The charges would apply to older diesel vehicles inside the outer ring road.

Leeds is one of five cities told to set up a clean air zone by the government by 2020.
