    A motorcyclist is being treated in hospital for a life-threatening head injury after colliding with a vehicle in Sheffield.

    The collision happened at about 20:05 last Friday on Wordsworth Avenue, Ecclesfield, as the biker was travelling towards Herries Road.

    The motorcyclist, who's 20, collided with a Vauxhall Mokka near the turning of Southey Hill.

    Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision to get in touch.

    A group of four people entered a tea room on Coldyhill Lane from Scalby Road at about 21:15 on Saturday 14 October 2017 after one of them smashed a side window.

    North Yorkshire Police say they would like to speak to the group as they have important information which they believe could help the investigation.

    Do you know this man? Police in York want to speak to him after a woman's leg was injured during an argument:

    It happened last Thursday when a man crossed the road on Bridge Street and shouted at the driver of a red Mini Cooper.

    The man then went up to the driver’s door and started an argument, which resulted in the driver of the Mini's leg being hit by the car door, according to police.

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

  7. Attack victim 'mustn't go straight back on street'published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Homelessness campaigners in South Yorkshire say they want to make sure the victim of an attack doesn't end up back on the streets when he is released from hospital.

    It follows an attack on homeless man Rob Lynskey, who was found with serious head injuries on High Street, Doncaster, at about 06:00 on Tuesday morning.

    Mr Lynskey, who police think is 32-years-old, is now in a stable condition.

    Campaigner Phillip Hartley, who runs the Donny Scran Van community hub, believes Mr Lynskey was attacked with a heavy-duty padlock and chain by another homeless person.

    Mr Hartley said: "We're going to do everything we can to make sure that when he's released from hospital he doesn't go straight back to the streets. That happens far too often."

    South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information about the incident.

    Councillors in Bingley have cancelled a meeting to discuss "incidents" in the town after a man died 10 days after suffering injuries.

    The meeting has been cancelled as a mark of respect to the family and friends of James Etherington who has died.

    Mr Etherington, 24, died yesterday, 10 days after he suffered head injuries in an incident outside Bijou nightclub in the early hours of 25 November.

    Bingley Town Council said that it was due to discuss the "incidents of the weekend of 25 - 26 November" today but had cancelled it as a mark of respect to the family.

    Four men have been questioned by police in connection with the incident.

    A 31-year-old and a 30-year-old were released under investigation, while a 23-year-old has been bailed.

    A 28-year-old man has been released without charge.

    The leader of the City of York Council says the start of work on the long-delayed new community stadium is a "great, great, pleasant surprise".

    Workers are preparing the site at Monk's Cross for an 8,000-seater stadium, which will be home to both York City football club and the York City Knights rugby league club.

    Councillors in Sheffield will decide on the future of 41 memorial trees which are marked for replacement under the Streets Ahead programme.

    The city council says that retaining the trees on Western Road could cost about £500,000, meaning the council would have to "re-prioritise its spending plan on core services such as adult social care".

    Cabinet members will make the final decision next week after receiving recommendations to explore other options to retain the trees.

    York's famous Shambles is proving popular with Harry Potter fans from around the world.

    The street is said to be an inspiration for the fictional Diagon Alley, the magical merchant market from the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

    The two Harry Potter-themed shops on the cobble-stoned street attract thousands of visitors, with a third outlet set to open.

    Hannah Wallace, from The Shop That Must Not Be Named, said: "We get asked a lot whether the films were shot on this street because it's so similar."

  13. Purge on fraudulent use of blue parking permitspublished at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Motorists tempted to use a Blue Badge that has not been issued for their use to access disabled parking spaces are being targeted in Sheffield.

    Thirteen people have been prosecuted recently for using a relative or friend’s blue badge to park for free in disabled bays across the city.

    Sheffield City Council is warning it will be clamping down on people who use blue badges illegally during the Christmas period.

    So far, 40 people caught using a badge that has not been issued to them have had it confiscated following prosecution.

    A special assembly has been held at a Leeds school after two students were badly hurt in a road accident close to the site.

    The 11 and 12-year-old girls were hit by a car outside Allerton Grange School yesterday as they were leaving, they're still being treated in hospital for serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

    On the school's Facebook page, they say "Our school community is shocked at the incident yesterday involving two of our students."

    "All students will be briefed regarding the road traffic collision involving two of our Year 8 students yesterday. There was a special assembly for Year 8 this morning".

    Police say the driver of the car stopped at the scene.

    Police are investigating how a 32-year-old man suffered a serious head injury in Doncaster.

    He was found at about 06:00 yesterday morning on High Street and taken to hospital.

    Yorkshire's England cricket captain Joe Root says England can turn the Ashes series around despite going 2-0 down with defeat in the second Test in Adelaide.

    England had an outside chance of a remarkable victory on the fifth day, but lost six wickets for 57 runs as Australia won by 120 runs.

    "We have shown in the first two Tests that we can outperform Australia," said Root.

    "The belief is there. We're still massively in this series."

    An 88-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Castleford.

    The man was trapped under the car - a dark blue Volvo S80 - before being rescued by fire crews on Welbeck Street just before midday on Monday.

    He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died yesterday.

    Sgt Ann Drury from West Yorkshire Police said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the movement of the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the incident to contact the Major Collision Inquiry Team.”

    The leaders of Barnsley and Doncaster councils have refused to attend a public debate next week on devolution in Yorkshire, despite the fact a referendum is currently being held on the issue in their areas.

    Monday's discussion has been organised by BBC Radio Sheffield in conjunction with local newspapers and follows months of disagreement between South Yorkshire council leaders over devolution.

    Barnsley Council leader Sir Steve Houghton and Doncaster Mayor Ros Jones, along with 15 other councils, support a Yorkshire-wide proposal instead. Neither are taking part in Monday's debate.

    Meanwhile, Sheffield Council leader Julie Dore and Rotherham Council leader Chris Read support a £30m deal for a South Yorkshire mayor, who is expected to be elected in May.

    The government has repeatedly said the South Yorkshire deal must be completed before Yorkshire-wide devolution can take place.

    The result of the poll in Barnsley and Doncaster will be announced on 21 December.

    But heading towards tomorrow night the picture's going to change, it seems:

    We can expect a band of snow to move into parts of Yorkshire by tomorrow night after a blustery start to the day, with Storm Caroline bringing high winds.

    As you can see from the graphic above, by 22:00 on Thursday parts of North, West and South Yorkshire should see some of the white stuff.

    Temperatures by Friday morning will be struggling to reach about 3C (37F).
