  4. Listen: 'Lack of resources' causing long A&E waitspublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2017

The number of patients waiting more than four hours in casualty departments has more than doubled in the last four years, according to research by the BBC.

This figure has been revealed two months after it emerged that emergency departments in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Pontefract and Dewsbury hadn't managed to meet their monthly targets at all in the past year.

The NHS trust which runs both York and Scarborough hospitals is also among those which continue to fail to meet the target.

Dr Taj Hassan, a consultant in emergency medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, says a lack of resources is to blame:

It now looks like plans are being drawn up for a completely new library to be built elsewhere in Sheffield city centre at cost of about £20m, with the current site on Surrey Street being turned into a "cultural hub".

Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure at Sheffield City Council, says she's confident something will still happen in the future:

  11. Rotherham child sexual abuse survivors want law changepublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2017

There's a call from survivors of child sex abuse in Rotherham for a change in the law so people who were in public office but failed to protect the children can still be held accountable

As the law currently stands, local authority staff can only be held accountable for their time in office and three months after they've left.

Jayne Senior was one of Rotherham Council's whistleblowers and is keen to see the alternation happen:

More than 1,400 children were sexually abused in the town from 1997 to 2013.

In September, a series of reports found the failure to tackle the problem was "not the fault of any one person" but was the result of "multiple and systemic failures."

Rotherham Council leader Chris Read has also written to Communities Secretary, Sajid Javid, asking him to review the current law.
