The drivers say they want the right to work in unmarked cars as they say their safety is at risk from people who throw bricks at minicabs.

The protest was due to end at 10:00, but knock-on tailbacks will be a problem for some time.

Large parts of the city have been brought to a standstill, even parts which were not on the route of the minicab drivers.

The exhibition, at The Art House in Sheffield, uses visual and audio art to explore how both parents and medical staff experience and encounter death "at the very beginning of life".

Academics from the University of Sheffield worked with the charities Sands and the Lullaby Trust on the project and interviewed families who have lost a baby.

Parents were invited to take part in a workshop where personal objects relating to their baby's death were transformed into artwork for the exhibition.

This grandmother from York, who didn't want to be named, says she struggles to afford to heat her home:

  9. Watch out for black icepublished at 08:38 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2017

    Wendy Middleton
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

If you need to head over the hills towards Manchester this morning, the gritters have been out overnight and the major routes are open.

Snow has been cleared but now the concern is about road surface temperatures below freezing which could lead to black ice on some routes.

I drove over Snake Pass to South Yorkshire this morning and the road was clear, but my car thermometer was reading -3.5C (26F) on the summit of the Pass. This was the scene:

    Snake Pass Road

My advice is to take it steady, especially around the bends, and you shouldn't have a problem.

The M62 and Woodhead Pass are also both open.

    James Graham
    Journalist, BBC Radio5live

People in less affluent parts of the country spend more as a proportion of their income on Christmas, analysis by the BBC indicates.

    Graph

The North East, West Midlands, Northern Ireland and Yorkshire and the Humber region spend 25% of a month's disposable income.

But in London and the South East, that falls to below 20%.

The analysis by BBC 5 live's Wake up to Money matched official regional income figures with Centre for Retail Research spending forecasts for Christmas.

Separate figures from YouGov show wealthier people are cutting back on Christmas and plan to spend less on gifts this year, down 8%, at £300, compared to £291 for lower earners, up 4%.

The Gyuto Monks, who live in exile in India alongside the Dalai Lama, were invited to Woodsetts at the weekend to support anti-fracking campaigners.

Energy firm Ineos has submitted plans to drill an exploration well for shale gas on land south of Dinnington Road.

Campaigners said the "land puja ceremony" was intended to restore peace and harmony to the land and village.

Matthew Wilkinson, from Woodsetts Against Fracking, said the monks visit was aimed at raising global awareness of their campaign.

Earlier this year, Ineos was granted temporary injunctions to prevent disruption by anti-fracking protesters at their sites across the country, including the one at Woodsetts.

Mr Wilkinson said careful consideration had been taken to ensure the monks' visit would not be in breach of that injunction.

They say there have been several recent incidents involving bricks being thrown at marked taxis and minicabs.

West Yorkshire Police says there are no circumstances where cabs should be unmarked because it'd be unsafe for passengers and could put children at risk of being sexually exploited.

But Ahmad Hussain, from Leeds Private Hire Drivers Association, says the drivers "want to be heard".

"We'll be starting off on Kirkstall Road and we'll be doing a slow protest driving through the city," says Mr Hussain.

"It's to make it known that we want a change. We're not asking for anything more than what we deserve," he adds.
