    A house is understood to have been partially demolished in an explosion in Leeds this afternoon.

    The blast happened at about 14:50 on Silk Mill Drive in the Tinshill/Cookridge area.

    A man has been left with what are thought to be non-life-threatening injuries after an explosion at a house in Leeds.

    The blast took place at about 14:50 at a house on Silk Mill Drive, Tinshill, police say.

    No-one else is believed to be inside the house, but emergency crews are checking the scene.

    Local residents in Skipton are in "shock" over the fatal stabbing of a woman at a supermarket, the town's council leader has said.

    Mum-of-one Jodie Willsher, 30, was attacked as she worked in the store in Skipton, North Yorkshire, at about 15:30 on Thursday.

    Customers and colleagues pinned down the attacker before police arrived. A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Skipton Town Council leader Chris Clark says: "It's a quiet little market town where everybody goes about their own business, enjoying themselves. It's just disbelief and shock that it's happened."

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found at a flat in Sheffield.

    Police were called to an address on Hazlebarrow Crescent, in Jordanthorpe, on Thursday afternoon and found the body of a 46-year-old woman.

    A 46-year-old man was also found at the scene with injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment and is now in police custody.

    A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later to determine how the woman died, police say.

    A man and woman in their 80s have been taken to hospital after a crash in Halifax this morning.

    The crash happened on Pye Nest Road at about 11:35 and involved a silver Volkswagen Golf and a skip lorry.

    Both vehicles hit a garden wall and the man and woman were subsequently taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

    Drivers are being warned to avoid the area as Pye Nest Road and Rochdale Road into Sowerby Bridge are currently closed.

    Officers who went in to a property on St Leonard's Lane in Rotherham to seize a cannabis farm penned a "Christmas message" to the occupant who wasn't around at the time.

    A short while after the plants and equipment were taken by police, a 26-year-old male returned to the property to find the message.

    Police say they are trying to trace 22-year-old Benjamin Lawson, who was arrested on suspicion of assault in Warsop and released on bail, but failed to turn up as expected.

    A British Transport Police officer has been dismissed following a public gross misconduct hearing.

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) found that PC Robert Mitchell breached the standards of professional behaviour expected of a police officer.

    A panel found PC Mitchell used force which was “unnecessary, unreasonable and disproportionate”, when arresting a man at Doncaster railway station on 14 January this year.

    The investigation took place after a complaint from a member of the public.

    The Fatima Community Centre in Burngreave has reopened following counter-terror raids in Sheffield and Chesterfield on Tuesday.

    Management at the centre say since the closure staff have been working with the police to re-open for today's prayers.

    The centre was "temporarily closed" after arrests were made in the private rented flats nearby.

    Four men are being held over an alleged terror plot that officers say could have been carried out over the Christmas period.

    A man is due to appear in court today, charged with the rape of a female sex worker in Leeds.

    Leslaw Miziula, aged 54, of Stratford Street, Beeston, is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court charged in connection with the incident in Springwell Court, Holbeck, on Wednesday, 20 December.

    The whole Aldi store and its car park remain cordoned off by police.

    Two officers are guarding the entrance but there isn't much police activity to be seen through the brightly-lit supermarket windows.

    Trolleys full of shopping can be seen in the aisles and food at the checkouts.

    Christmas shoppers unaware of what happened here yesterday are still arriving. No-one is saying when the shop will reopen.

    Among the tributes left in the car park, one says: "In our thoughts, from all of us at Tesco in Skipton."

    Another says: "To our dear beautiful sweet friend, we are all broken. Sorry we never got our girls' night, here's a glass to you."

    Local tributes left at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Skipton have identified 30-year-old Jodie Willsher as the victim.

    Floral tributes to Mrs Willsher have been left at the edge of the police cordon around the store.

    One man, who did not want to be named, lay down flowers describing the victim as an "absolutely lovely person".

    He said: "I went to school with Jodie, primary school and high school. She was a well-liked person, I don't know anyone who had a grudge against her, she seemed, lovely, such a nice person.

    "She idolised her daughter. She put a snap on Facebook yesterday of her with her daughter cuddling in bed before she went to work."
