    Julie Hodgins, Health Promotion Specialist

  4. Listen: Jarvis Cocker criticises 'crazy' tree fellingpublished at 09:06 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

Jarvis Cocker, the former frontman of Sheffield band Pulp, says the felling of street trees is blighting the city.

About 5,500 trees have been cut down in Sheffield since 2012, with the city council saying the tree felling is part of its £2bn Streets Ahead project, aimed at improving roads and footpaths in the city.

Speaking as he prepares to perform in the city tonight at a concert, external with a tree protest theme, the singer says the work being done by contractor Amey on behalf of the council "seems pretty crazy":

The council, which is planting new trees after removing existing ones, insists the trees earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

However, many of the trees classed by the council as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which campaigners say should be saved.

Instead, they say amendments should be made to surrounding pavements and roads.

  5. Listen: Shirt prompts Hillsborough protestspublished at 08:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

Clothes retailer Topman is facing calls for a red shirt bearing the number 96 and the words "what goes around also comes back around" to be withdrawn from its website.

The shirt is being seen by some Liverpool fans as a reference to the club's kit and the 96 people who died as a result of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster in Sheffield in 1989.

Topman is yet to reply to the calls for it to be withdrawn, but the shirt is no longer on sale online.

Lou Brookes, who lost her brother, Andrew, in the tragedy, says the retailer "has some explaining to do":

  6. Concerns over conditions faced by bar staff and waiterspublished at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

Bar staff and waiters in Yorkshire have raised concerns about poor working conditions which they say have left them out of pocket.

One waiter in a bar in West Yorkshire told the BBC they had to pay when a customer left without paying their bill. She says this can mean earning a total of £1 by the end of her shift.

Another worker, at the TGI Fridays chain in Yorkshire, also said he's been left thousands of pounds out of pocket by changes to the firm's tipping policy.

He says the company takes 40% of all card tips and gives it to the kitchen staff.

The worker puts it down to the fact that the minimum wage goes up in April and they can give them the tips rather than paying them more.

Responding, TGI Fridays said it was "disappointed to hear of these accusations and are looking into them as a matter of urgency":

    Quote Message

Our team members are the beating heart of our business, it's our people that really set us apart, and we work tirelessly to ensure that we always give them our best support. These allegations are not reflective of Fridays values by any means, or how we operate as a business nationally."

  7. Third MP calls for Sheffield tree felling to be put on holdpublished at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

Another Sheffield MP has spoken out about the city council's tree replacement programme.

Jared O'MaraImage source, House of Commons

Earlier this week, city Labour MPs Louise Haigh and Paul Blomfield called for the felling to be paused.

Now, the Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, Jared O'Mara, has also commented in a statement on his website:

    Quote Message

I am dismayed to learn that there are provisions in the council’s contract with Amey which will allow up to 17,500 trees to be felled (half of the city’s street-based stock) seemingly at the mere whim of a private company."

    Jared O'Mara, Sheffield Hallam

The tree felling is part of Sheffield City Council's £2bn Streets Ahead project, aimed at improving roads and footpaths in the city.

About 5,500 trees have been cut down since 2012.

A large amount of copper cable was cut and removed from the Selby Salads plant in Camblesforth, near Selby, at about 21:00 on 23 February.

  11. Listen: Petition over Filey fishermen's futurepublished at 07:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2018

More than 6,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the government to save Filey's remaining fisherman.

The fisherman, who are catching sea trout, also unintentionally catch some salmon.

The Environment Agency (EA) says it's worried about the dwindling number of salmon and now wants to cut the fishing season by two months to help preserve stocks.

According to the petition, there are "just seven small-scale, artisanal boats" left in Filey.

Its signatories call for the government to "not allow small-scale, low-impact, sustainable fishing businesses to go out of operation".

Filey fisherman Rex Harrison says if the EA's plans go ahead, it would mean the end of their traditional way of life:
