    A planned bin strike in Kirklees next month won't now go ahead.

    Bin collectors

    The proposed action by members of the trade union Unison was due to take place at the beginning of June.

    It's been halted until an independent investigation has been carried out into claims of bullying and harassment of bin workers.

    In a statement, Karl Battersby, from Kirklees Council, says: "We remain committed to working with the unions to resolve the concerns which have been raised and will continue to review the service to ensure we deliver the best possible service for our residents and businesses."

    The last surviving British member of the Dambusters raid has said memories came flooding back to him as he flew over the Derwent Valley in a Lancaster bomber earlier.

    Squadron Leader George "Johnny" Johnson, 96, was meant to fly over on Wednesday to mark the mission's 75th anniversary but bad weather meant the flight was cancelled.

    But the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight reorganised the flypast at short notice for today.

    Mr Johnson said: "Over the Derwent Dam, the time was gone, just like that, I was back there …thinking about the times that we went there.

    "I have to say the first time I noticed the hilly area we were going to, I wondered what the hell we were doing down at 60ft, but there it was, that was the job and it all came back just like that, it was wonderful."

    A campaign to ensure what is said to be Robin Hood's final resting place is protected from surrounding development is gathering pace, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    An online petition calls on Calderdale Council to reject proposals to develop the area around Kirklees Hall near Brighouse.

    A grave, said to be Robin Hood's, is in the hall's grounds and is said to be the famous spot to where the dying outlaw fired his last arrow from the window and he was buried where it landed.

    The proposals are in fact part of neighbouring Kirklees Council's Local Plan, which provides for potential Green Belt space at land around Cooper Bridge roundabout.

    A teenager will spend longer in jail after he had his sentence increased for firearms and drugs offences.

    Javarni Cato, of Kingstanding, in Birmingham, pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on 28 February.

    He also admitted a number of charges relating to drugs.

    Today, a judge increased the the 17-year-old's sentence from five years and four months to nine years in total.

    The woman in charge of policing North Yorkshire says she can't support the idea of routinely arming front line officers in rural areas.

    The National Police Chief's Council has been discussing the possibility, in order for officers in remote communities to deal with terror threats.

    The government is announcing plans to speed up the decision making process for fracking applications.

    It's an issue that affects North Yorkshire where there's been a long fight against a company's plans to frack in Ryedale.

    Third Energy is still waiting for final government approval to carry out the controversial technique of drilling for shale gas at a site near Kirby Misperton.

    Business Secretary Greg Clark is setting out a series of actions to support what he says is the development of shale gas extraction.

    After 23 years of supporting people affected by domestic abuse, Pathways Family Support Centre in Barnsley faces closure.

    It say it'll close in August, external when a lottery grant runs out, unless it can raise £50,000 to keep going.

    A Sheffield-wide police operation today has seen five arrests as well drugs and cash being seized.

    It's part of Operation Duxford in South Yorkshire and police say a further 10 wanted men are now in custody over a range of suspected offences.

    Search warrants have been used at addresses in Totley and the Manor areas.

    Police have arrested a 37-year-old West Yorkshire man on suspicion of murder following the death of Jessica Patel, in Middlesbrough on Monday.

    Jessica, 34 and originally from the Leeds area, was murdered at her home on The Avenue in Linthorpe at about 20:20 on Monday.

    Det Supt Tariq Ali said the murder happened in a quiet part of the town, leaving residents shocked:

    The UK is being taken to court by the European Commission over its long-standing failure to meet EU limits for nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) in places like Leeds.

    Germany, France, Italy, Romania, and Hungary have also been referred to the court for breaching pollution levels.

    The European Environment Commissioner, Karmenu Vella, said the EU "owed it to its citizens," to take legal action.
