Police were called to the Maple Tree pub in Balby at about 20:45 last night.
One man was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, where he later died of gunshot injuries.
South Yorkshire Police have not made any arrests but an investigation is currently ongoing.
Any witnesses to the incident are being asked to come forward.
An new photography exhibition is due to open next month showing Hull's rag and bone men, who claim to be city's "original recyclers".
The images, which go on display at Hull's Streetlife Museum from 2 February, show scrap dealers from 1968 to the present day.
The photographs come from the collection of the Norris family, who've spent decades collecting unwanted goods in the city, originally using horse and carts.
It features three generations of the family, with black-and-white images of George Norris Sr and colour snaps taken by his son, who co-curated the exhibition.
George Norris Jr said: "Scrap dealers are the original recyclers. My family have dealt with horses for the past 100 years and are a well-known family in Hull."
The headteacher of one of the Yorkshire coast's biggest schools says she's concerned about vulnerable children getting caught up in so-called "county lines" drug dealing.
County lines is a term used to describe groups of criminals who often use young people or vulnerable adults to carry and sell drugs across county boundaries.
Violence linked to drugs gangs operating in North Yorkshire has hit unprecedented levels in the past 18 months, police chiefs have said.
More than 200 people have been arrested since police launched an operation nine months ago to try and tackle the issue.

Police are expected to reveal more details later about their investigation into the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl from Sheffield.
Pamela Horvathova was last seen outside Sheffield College, on Granville Road, on Tuesday 18 December.
South Yorkshire Police officers are due to hold a media conference outside the college, exactly one month since she vanished.
The South Yorkshire force has now released CCTV images of Ms Horvathova arriving at the college on 18 December at about 11:30 and leaving there just after 14:05.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is being asked to get in touch with police.

The husband of a senior police officer responsible for tackling hate crimes has been questioned over allegations he racially abused a woman at an event in South Yorkshire.
Ex-police officer Ian Barber allegedly used a racial slur to a waitress at a police Christmas party in Sheffield.
Mr Barber is married to Rachel Barber, deputy chief constable of Nottinghamshire Police and the force's lead on hate crimes.
The incident is alleged to have happened at a Christmas party for senior officers from South Yorkshire Police at Cutlers' Hall in Sheffield on 15 December.
BBC News has been told Mr Barber twice clashed with members of the waiting staff at the venue during course of the evening.
He is alleged to have used a racially abusive comment during the course of the second argument.
A senior officer from South Yorkshire Police, Assistant Chief Constable Tim Forber, is said to have intervened and asked Mr Barber to leave.
In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said an investigation had been launched and "inquiries remain ongoing".

Emergency services were called to the Maple Tree pub in Balby late last night.
South Yorkshire Police tweeted at about 22:30: "Officers and an ambulance attended the scene, treating a single male victim, who was taken to hospital."
Investigations have begun into exactly what happened and police remained on the scene late last night, according to police.
