    The bins are part of Operation Sceptre, a week-long national campaign against knife crime.

    North Yorkshire Police say they allow people to hand over weapons "safely and anonymously".

    Det Supt Fran Naughton said: "Operation Sceptre provides an important opportunity to continue the conversation about knife crime, helping children and young people understand the dangers and potentially fatal consequences of carrying a knife, whilst providing support for them and their families.”

    Middlesbrough Labour MP Andy McDonald has reacted angrily to the news Sirius Minerals has been forced to cancel plans to issue a $500m (£403m) bond for a fertiliser mine it is developing near Teesside.

    He said: "This government has completely taken its eye off the ball and, like the podium in Luxembourg, Boris Johnson and his hard right pals have gone missing at a time of crisis.

    "This mad administration, propelling the country to economic cliff edge, seems determined to do everything they can to destroy the industrial base of Teesside. They’re keen enough to give tax breaks to gambling bankers but won’t lift a finger to help our industries.

    "Sirius is critical to Teesside’s future and if government stands aside as they did with the Redcar Blast Furnace they will never be forgiven.”

    The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) wants to test innovative technologies for making fusion reactor components at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) at Catcliffe.

    The £22m facility would open in 2020 providing 40 new highly skilled jobs, UKAEA said.

    UKAEA said the 25,000 sq ft (2,323 sq m) centre would "develop and test innovative technologies for creating fusion reactor components".

    "Fusion, a safer and more efficient form of nuclear energy, could be one of the most promising options for generating low-carbon electricity in the future," a spokesperson said.

    A badly damaged phone box in Harrogate which has been at the centre of a community row is to be removed, according to the charity responsible for it.

    The Valley Drive kiosk was described as a "safety hazard" by a local resident last week.

    The classic red booth used to house a payphone, but BT says it was adopted , externalby Community Heartbeat which looked at renovating it in order to install a defibrillator.

    The charity has since said the booth is now scheduled for removal.

    "The local community was asked if they wished to renovate and use for something community focused but no one came forward", a spokesperson said.

    Former Bradford City manager Jim Jefferies is recovering after suffering a heart attack.

    The 68-year-old took unwell on Monday morning and was taken to hospital.

    In 1998 he led Hearts to their first Scottish Cup triumph in 32 years, as they defeated Rangers 2-1 at Celtic Park.

    His last post in management was at Dunfermline Athletic and he has also had spells in charge of Bradford City, Falkirk and Kilmarnock.

    All three emergency services are attending the crash on the eastbound carriageway, with queues affecting traffic in Brough.

    The fire service is asking people to expect delays and be patient.

    Four more people have been charged with the murder of a man who died after being found injured in the street.

    Aleksander Pawlak, 30, was discovered in Pinderfields Road, Wakefield, shortly after midnight on 9 September.

    Emergency services were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Maciaj Solarz, 27, and Adam Litwinowicz, 23, both of Alma Road, Southampton, and Michal Lukarz Symanski, 23, and Karolina Kukawska, 20, both of St Denys Road, Southampton have all been charged with murder.

    They are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning.

    On Monday, a fifth person, Marceli Szymanski, 19, of Mallards Road, Bursledon, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court charged with murder. He is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court later today.

    Sirius Minerals has been forced to put on hold plans to issue a $500bn (£403bn) bond for a fertiliser mine it is developing in the North York Moors.

    It paused the bond issue last month, but has now said it cannot issue it, blaming "market conditions", including Brexit and lack of government support.

    It will now undergo a six-month review of four different options for a new financing plan to resume the project.

    The company's shares fell by 63% in early trading on Tuesday morning.

    The mine, near Whitby, is due to open in 2021 and create more than 1,000 jobs.

    Managing director Chris Fraser said: "This is the most prudent decision to give the company the time necessary to restructure its plans to move the project forward."

    Tilly Thorpe was last seen in the Winestead area, near Partrington, at about 21:00 last night.

    She is described as 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build, with long brown hair.

    Police say when last seen she was wearing black leggings and a hoodie.

    Charges have been dropped against a man accused of abducting a Vietnamese teenager who went missing while on a tour of York.

    Linh Thi Dieu Le, 15, went missing from her tour group on 6 August but was found safe and well a week later.

    North Yorkshire Police would not confirm where the teenager was found.

    Ho Quang Ngoc, 25, was previously charged with taking a child and facilitating a breach of immigration laws.

    A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said: “After a careful consideration of all the evidence submitted to us by North Yorkshire Police, we concluded that there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction.”

    Sheffield United co-owner Kevin McCabe has said he is "bitterly disappointed" after losing a High Court battle over the ownership of the club and is considering launching an appeal.

    Earlier a judge ruled Mr McCabe (above left) must sell his 50% stake in the Premier League side to co-owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (above right).

    In a statement issued after the ruling, a spokesman for Mr McCabe said: "Kevin McCabe has been the longest serving director and/or owner of Sheffield United in the history of the club.

    "For the McCabe family to have lost their connection with the football club in this manner and by way of this judgment is simply heart breaking.

    "Serious consideration is now being given, with the advisers to Sheffield United Limited, to an appeal against the judgment."

    The number of firefighters at a barn blaze near York is starting to reduce as the operation scales down, the fire service says.

    About 300 tonnes of wood chippings, hay and straw were ablaze this morning.

    The fire, which is at a barn in Thorpe Underwood, is now down to two appliances from four which attended earlier.

    A man who fell from a vehicle in Sheffield city centre this morning is recovering in hospital.

    The man was taken to hospital at about 10:15 following the incident which left him with a head injury.

    It's not being treated as suspicious, police say.

    Aleksander Pawlak, aged 30, from Wakefield, died after he was found seriously injured in Pinderfields Road, Wakefield, in the early hours of 9 September.

    West Yorkshire Police said 19-year-old Marceli Szymanski, of Mallards Road, Southampton, has been charged with murder.

    He appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court earlier and he has been remanded into custody ahead of a hearing tomorrow at Leeds Crown Court.

    Four other people, three men, two aged 23 and one aged 27, and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in Southampton on suspicion of murder over the weekend.

    All four remain in police custody.

    A woman who stole pet medications worth £17,000 from her employer to sell online has been given a two-year suspended prison sentence.

    Abbi Mae Jowers, 25, of Broadway West, in Redcar, stole the medication while working as a receptionist at Vets4Pets, in Hookstone Chase, Harrogate, where she was responsible for ordering supplies for the practice.

    York Crown Court heard that between 2 January and 11 April 2018, she stole stock worth £17,601.98.

    Jowers pleaded guilty to theft, converting criminal property and fraud at a hearing on Friday and was sentenced to two years in jail suspended for two years.

    She was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
