Parents have been asked to "set boundaries" for their children this weekend after police reported a rise in anti-social behaviour during the lockdown in parts of North Yorkshire.

On social media, officers said: "We know young people are finding the current situation and restrictions difficult and want to be out with their friends.

"But we urge parents to ensure they set boundaries for their teens and ensure they don’t make life a misery for local people. This plea follows a rise in incidents of antisocial behaviour."

Peter Allanach (pictured), from Boston Spa, is taking part in The Accumulator, a 496-mile challenge to run an increasing number of miles each day throughout the month of May.

Mr Allanach began on 1 May by running one mile, followed on 2 May by a run of two miles, adding another mile to his runs each day, until finally, on 31 May, having to complete a distance of 31 miles.

He hopes his challenge will raise awareness during the Covid-19 pandemic, of the mental health needs of NHS workers, who may be susceptible to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Mr Allanach says: "I've been under enemy attack during army operations and was fortunate enough not to have been affected psychologically, whereas some of my colleagues suffered badly from the same incident.

"Soldiers generally take time to decompress before going home after operations, but NHS workers finish their shifts and take their emotional state home with little time to decompress before their next shift begins."

He adds: "This run so far has been really tough and as each run gets longer the harder it is to start the next."

  17. School opening delayed over 'Test and Trace' concernspublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 29 May 2020

The government said it was looking at opening some schools by 1 June, but the city council says it feels that is too early.

Abtisam Mohamed, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said Sheffield Director of Public Health, Greg Fell, had advised the council the Test and Trace system "should be in place and working effectively for 14 days before schools and nurseries begin increasing their numbers".

Mr Mohamed added: "Whilst nationally the government is requesting that schools and nurseries start to increase the number of pupils attending over the coming weeks, in light of the Sheffield Public Health advice we do not yet feel assured that it is the right time and are advising our schools and nurseries to delay increasing numbers until the 15 June.

"We are acutely aware that many schools may have already put systems in place for increasing numbers of children prior to this date.

"However, our priority must always be ensuring the safety of our staff and the children is not compromised when the numbers are increased."

He said schools would remain open for children of key workers and vulnerable children.
