Hull City Council’s annual Listed Buildings At Risk register found four of the buildings were in a poor, very poor or ruined condition.

One is currently being restored, while another is in fair condition and one more requires repairs to preserve it for the future, according to the register.

    The buildings include:

    • The Strand, Brunswick Avenue
    • George Lamb Memorial Chapel, Lambert Street (pictured)
    • Hennebique concrete works, Caroline Street
    • East Lodge, Pearson Park
    • National Picture Theatre, Beverley Road
    • Hydraulic Tower and Pump House, St Andrews Dock
    • Castle Buildings, Castle Street

Adam Fowler, former chair of Hull Civic Society, who helped to get some of the buildings listed, says they are a crucial part of the city’s heritage.

Mr Fowler says: "These buildings are listed not just because they have local significance. They have national architectural and historical importance.

"The best way to save them is to restore them and bring them back into use. Otherwise these buildings, which some of Hull’s most precious, will continue to decay."

  11. Stations rebranded in commercial radio network shake uppublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 28 May 2020

Radio stations across Yorkshire are to be rebranded in a move which will create "the largest commercial radio network in the UK", a media company has announced.

    A DAB Radio

Yorkshire Coast Radio, Dearne FM, and Minster FM are just some of the stations that will be rebranded as Greatest Hits Radio from September.

It follows Bauer Media buying stations owned by Lincs FM, Celador Radio and UKRD last year.

The media giant says it will now be "providing the highest listening hours of any commercial radio brand".

As part of the changes, some job roles will be "put into consultation" as some locally-made shows will stop and others produced across the county.

Dearne FM, Trax FM, Ridings FM and Rother FM will also become Greatest Hits Radio, as will Minster FM, Stray FM and Yorkshire Coast Radio.

KCFM will also become Greatest Hits Radio after a licensing agreement with their owners.

Dee Ford, from Bauer Radio, said: "Expanding the Hits Radio Brand Network will ensure listeners to these acquired stations benefit from multi-platform digital distribution meaning they can continue to broadcast in an increasingly competitive, digital and voice-activated world.

"This ensures the provision of local news and information, traffic and travel as well as access for advertisers to highly valued audiences.

"These changes do unfortunately mean that some roles will be put into consultation and freelance contracts reviewed."

In the last three months, 200 objects have gone head-to-head and more than 9,000 votes have been cast on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, the museum said.

The first round of voting finishes today after three months, but then 10 losing artefacts which received the most votes will compete for five runner-up places.

Robin Diaper, the museum's curator, said the response and level of voting had been "phenomenal".

Schools have also been involved in choosing the objects and the first, a decorated ostrich egg, was picked for display by Collingwood Primary School.

The Grade II-listed Victorian museum is due to have 50% more objects on public display when it reopens in 2024.

Work on the museum is to include opening up the top floor of the building for exhibitions.

One of its three cupolas, or domes, will also be opened to give visitors a bird's-eye view of the city centre and nearby dock.

Before that can happen, more than 50,000 exhibits - including whale skeletons - have to be safely packed away, with work on that expected to start in September.

The museum's refurbishment is part of a £30m scheme to transform some of Hull’s key maritime sites, including North End Shipyard, the trawler Arctic Corsair and the Spurn Lightship.
