    Police say they want to speak to this man after security cameras and keypads were damaged at a farm in Sheffield last month:

    The damage happened at about midnight on Friday 3 April on a farm on Haugh Lane.

    The cameras and keypad were on a gate of the property.

    Anyone with information about what happened, or who recognises the man in the image above, is being asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.

    An eight-week public consultation on a proposed devolution deal for West Yorkshire has begun.

    The deal would see an elected mayor for the region in place by May 2021 with powers over areas including transport and housing and access to more than £1.8bn in funding.

    People who live, work or spend time in West Yorkshire are all encouraged to take part in the consultation, external, which runs until 19 July.

  3. Man charged after boy injured in Hull motorbike crashpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 26 May 2020

    A 24-year-old man has been charged with five offences after a nine-year-old boy suffered life-changing injuries in a motorbike crash in Hull yesterday.

    The boy was struck by a bike in Rosmead Park, off Southcoates Lane, at about midday on Monday.

    Jerome Cawkwell, 24, of Cambridge Grove, Hull has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence, using a vehicle without insurance and using a vehicle not in efficient working order.

    He is due to appear before Hull Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Humberside Police said.

    Police are increasing patrols in part of Sheffield today after reports of shots being fired last night.

    Officers were called to Heeley Green just before 20:30 last night after reports of a gun being fired.

    It's thought the shots were fired on Myrtle Road, Heeley, though South Yorkshire Police say nobody is believed to have been injured.

    There will be an "increased police presence" in the area as part of their investigation, the force added.

  5. Two taken to hospital after Bradford 3D printer firepublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 26 May 2020

    Two people have needed hospital treatment after a 3D printer which was being used to help make visors for front-line NHS staff caught fire at their house in Bradford.

    The printer was in the conservatory of a house on Old Road, Horton Bank Top, when the fire broke out at about 02:45 yesterday.

    Allan Bannister and his wife, Rita, were treated in hospital for the effects of breathing in smoke and were both discharged a few hours later.

    The 3D printers were creating parts for visors which would be sent to NHS doctors, nurses and other health service staff, Mr Bannister said.

    The couple were woken up by smoke alarms and were met with "thick black acrid smoke" downstairs, he added.

    Three fire crews tackled the blaze at the Bannisters' house, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

    A painting celebrating a four-year-old boy who is undergoing treatment for a rare childhood cancer has appeared on a wall in the youngster's home village in West Yorkshire.

    Oliver Stephenson is being treated for neuroblastoma at Leeds General Infirmary, having been diagnosed with the disease in January.

    He and his dad, James, have been on lockdown at the hospital since 27 April.

    The mural has been painted on the wall of the Boot & Shoe, in Ackworth, by artist Rachel List, who has been brightening up Pontefract during the coronavirus outbreak through a series of murals paying tribute to the NHS.

    Oliver's mum, Laura, and younger brother, Alfie (pictured below), visited the site earlier today.

    Laura said: "We are humbled that she has done one for Oliver."

    From the Housemartins' rendition of Caravan of Love to Everything But The Girl's 90s smash-hit And I Miss You, people living East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are being asked to choose their "Humber Anthem" for a new BBC project.

    The winning song will then be recorded by the BBC Philharmonic orchestra and added to the "Great Northern Playlist", which will be made up of tracks picked from each of the 10 BBC Local Radio areas in the north of England.

    Presenter Kofi Smiles said: “East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire has produced some phenomenal musicians, from the likes of Everything But the Girl to the Beautiful South.

    "We’re sure to get plenty of nominations for tunes by them, but this is about the song that most says Humber to you. Let’s find out once and for all: what is the anthem of Humber?”

    Nominations run from today until midday on 28 May and the finished song will be played two weeks later on the BBC Radio Humberside Breakfast Show.

    Three people have been arrested after about 200 revellers attended an illegal rave at a protected nature reserve.

    The rave was held at Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve in Leeds on Monday night.

    West Yorkshire Police said people had waded across a section of river to gain access to the reserve, sparking concerns for their safety.

    A local community group said they also disturbed nesting birds and could have trodden on some of the young birds.

    Supt Chris Bowen said the force wanted to encourage people to play by the rules, but would use enforcement powers where necessary.

    "We would urge people to consider their own safety and the safety of others, particularly during the warmer weather and the ongoing period of lockdown," he said.

    Sound equipment was also seized by officers.

    The Bishop of Ripon is among senior Church of England figures who say they've received death threats after criticising Dominic Cummings' lockdown travel.

    A number of church leaders criticised Mr Cummings' trip from London to Durham to self-isolate.

    Prime Minister Boris Johnson has supported his advisor.

    Helen-Ann Hartley, the bishop of Ripon, said she'd received a threat: "'Stay out of politics or it will be the death of you' was one of the emails I received today."

    The Right Reverend Hartley, who had earlier written about missing her father's birthday during the lockdown as he recovered from radiotherapy, said she was "following up" the hate email with police.

    Bishops in Newcastle and Liverpool are among others who have said they have received hate mail.

    The Church of England has declined to comment further.

    Three people have been arrested after a woman was left with "life-threatening" injuries following a disturbance in South Yorkshire at the weekend.

    The injured woman was found after police were called to a property on Ramskir View, in the Stainforth area of Doncaster, at about 15:05 on Sunday.

    The 51-year-old woman had suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.Two men, aged 33 and 47, and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assault.

    Police say they are "keen" to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has any information which can help with their inquiries.

    Police are appealing for help trying to find the person who shot a peregrine falcon dead in West Yorkshire.

    The young bird was found dead with bullet wounds in Brighouse on Saturday.

    An x-ray confirmed the bird had died after being shot.

    It's thought to have been a bird which was hatched at the University of Leeds in 2018.

    PC Newsome, a wildlife crime officer from West Yorkshire Police, posted the pictures on social media asking people with information about the shooting to get in touch.

    Motorists are being urged to take care on the A1033 east of Hull after a "significant oil spill".

    A live mortar shell has been destroyed by the Army's bomb squad after it was found by runners in South Yorkshire.

    Fell runners came across the device yesterday at Langsett, prompting an operation involving mountain rescue teams, the police and the bomb squad.

    The device was found to be a live explosive, probably left over from World War Two when the area was used as a shooting range.

    The mortar was destroyed in a controlled explosion carried out by the bomb squad.

    The Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team said it wasn't uncommon to find mortars in the area, and have warned people it's important to let police know if they come across a similar device.

  15. Homes evacuated in Pickering as fire crews tackle blazepublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 26 May 2020

    Investigations are continuing today after about 30 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Pickering on Monday due to a fire.

    It broke out in a cul-de-sac off Middleton Road in Pickering early yesterday afternoon, with several gas cylinders exploding due to the blaze, according to North Yorkshire Fire Service.

    A number of nearby homes were evacuated, with people being moved to safety at the nearby Memorial Hall for about three hours.

    The fire spread to neighbouring garages and hedges, but homes were not seriously damaged in the blaze.

    At its height, about 30 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze, the cause of which is not yet known.

    Firefighters from several stations in West Yorkshire have been involved in tackling a moor fire near Keighley.

    Crews were called at about 22:45 on Monday night to a blaze on Cragg Bottom Road in Oldfield.

    At its height about 25 firefighters were dealing with the incident, including crews from Calderdale and Leeds.

    About 75 sq m of heather and moorland was involved, according to West Yorkshire Fire Service.

    Crews used beaters, aqua backpacks, hose reels and other equipment to tackle the blaze.

    People are being reminded to practise social distancing this week as more fine weather is forecast following fine conditions on Bank Holiday Monday.
