The A1M in both directions between junction 36 and 37 had been shut because of a van leaving the carriageway, traffic news provider Inrix says.

An air ambulance was in attendance, it added.

The southbound carriageway has just reopened, police added.

A diversion is in place for drivers, but there is a "large amount" of traffic trapped within the road closure.

  2. Leeds Utd promotion push: 'Like being a kid at Christmas'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

A Leeds United fan says he feels "like a kid at Christmas" as his team look to gain promotion to the Premier League.

    Andy McVeigh

The Championship side's 16-year top-flight exile will end if West Brom fail to beat Huddersfield tonight or Brentford drop points at Stoke on Saturday.

Even if Albion and Brentford both win their next games, Leeds will be promoted if they avoid defeat against Derby on Sunday.

"It feels almost surreal because this club has been such a disaster for so long, a circus, before [owner] Radrizzani", Andy McVeigh said.

Mr McVeigh, who is known as the Burley Banksy because of his paintings on junction boxes near Elland Road, said he'll be pleased for the city if they win promotion.

He said: "To think something good is actually going to happen, it's like being a kid at Christmas. My son is 17 and he's never seen us do anything - he's just watched dross. You used to go to Elland Road as a duty, a chore like doing the washing up.

"I'm pleased for the city, we have a ridiculous support, Leeds United. We could take 10,000 away to Stoke. I'm pleased for the kids who've never seen us succeed and I'm pleased they get to see us take on the big teams and players.

"They're going to go down as legends - they won't have to buy a pint in Leeds for the rest of their lives."
