Mr Green ran after the man and rugby tackled him to the ground and held on to him until the police arrived.
The man was subsequently charged with robbery and sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.
Ch Supt Una Jennings said: “Wayne leapt into action that day and did a fantastic job, purely on instinct and the desire to help someone else.
“It's also heartening to see people are prepared to defend others. Well done, Wayne.”
A new walk-through coronavirus testing facility has opened in Leeds, it's been confirmed.
Testing at the Mandela Community Centre on Chapeltown Road is only available for those with coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste, according to the Department of Health.
Anyone with one or more of these symptoms is being asked to book a test at nhs.uk/coronavirus, external or by calling 119.
The new site is situated so it's easily accessible without a car, the Department of Health says.
It adds: "Those being tested will be required to follow public health measures, including social distancing, not travelling by taxi or public transport, practising good personal hygiene and wearing a face covering throughout, including while travelling to and from the testing centre."
Six people have been arrested after several trolleys full of goods were stolen from a supermarket in York.
A group of people filled four trolleys at the store in Acomb before leaving and making no attempt to pay for the goods at about 17:15 on Thursday, police say.
A staff member challenged the group as they were loading goods into their car, but they made off leaving some of the items behind.
Six people were arrested on the A659 near Tadcaster several hours later when a Hyundai Santa Fe car was stopped by police (pictured).
The car's occupants, three men and three women, all in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of theft.
A search of the vehicle revealed it had false number plates and contained items of food and boxed toys, according to North Yorkshire Police.
All those arrested remain in custody, officers add.
A care home in West Yorkshire has been praised after building a visiting pod that helps families speak to their loved ones through a plastic screen during the coronavirus lockdown.
Vicarage Court care home in Featherstone, near Wakefield, created the pod for less than £1,000.
Glynis Millington, who has used the pod to visit her mother, said: "At the beginning of the lockdown, it was months before I could see my mum.
"So, to be able to come and see her and talk to her, see what she's like, is brilliant.":
A man's needed hospital treatment after being assaulted in the early hours of the morning by two teenagers in York city centre, police say.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was attacked near Ouse Bridge between 02:00 and 02:30 on Thursday.
Two male teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail while an investigation takes place, police say.
Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any part of a fight taking place to get in touch.

Barnsley’s first Covid marshals officially hit the streets this week in a bid to crackdown on people flouting the coronavirus lockdown rules.
Although they have no formal enforcement powers, members of the team will be connected by radio to the police.
The marshals will advise and support members of the public and businesses by reminding people to follow guidelines, such as wearing a face covering, managing queues and supporting social distancing in crowded areas.
The marshalls wear blue high-visibility jackets and will operate across the borough until 22:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends.
Councillor Jenny Platts said: “We hope the Covid marshals will be able to take some of the pressure away from police and council officers who have worked tirelessly through the pandemic."
A taxi driver was knocked unconscious and a passenger in another taxi was injured as a group of youths threw rocks and stones at passing vehicles in Leeds last night, police say.
A "large group of youths" gathered on a field next to the A64 York Road and its junction with Moresdale Lane at about 18:45 on Thursday and began targeting vehicles, according to West Yorkshire Police.
A taxi driver whose vehicle was targeted lost consciousness and had taken to hospital after he was hit on the head by a brick thrown through the front passenger window of his car.
Up to five other vehicles, including a bus, were damaged in the attacks, while a female taxi passenger received "minor injuries" after a stone was thrown at the vehicle she was travelling in, officers say.
Det Insp Guy Shackleton says: “It's clear their completely mindless actions could have had far worse consequences.
“We would like to hear from anyone who saw this group of youths in the area, or who has any information which could help identify them."

A Labour MP has revealed how she learned she had miscarried while her partner was forced to wait in a hospital car park due to coronavirus restrictions.
Olivia Blake, Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, spoke out about her "very difficult" experience in a parliamentary debate on baby loss.
Ms Blake called on the government to do more to ensure no woman has to go through the same experience.
After being told about her miscarriage, she had to relay the news to her partner, who was having to wait in a car outside the hospital due to a ban on visitors, the MP said.
She told the Westminster Hall debate she had raised concerns about the issue on behalf of her constituents in June.
"Little did I know I would be experiencing a miscarriage in August and having to go through some of the issues my constituents had raised with me," she said.
The blanket ban on visiting patients or accompanying them to hospital appointments in England was lifted on 5 June.
Ms Blake welcomed the government's change in advice and guidance on allowing partners to scans and appointments, but said it was "not enough to improve access".
A 19-year-old man's been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack which destroyed a house in Hull, say police.
Three pets - a dog and two cats - were killed in the blaze on Thorpepark Road last night, after a firework was put through the letterbox.
A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: "A fire investigation has been carried out at the property and it has been confirmed it was due to a firework through the letterbox.
"The fire spread to a neighbouring property after its guttering caught fire."
All the occupants of the house escaped the blaze before fire crews arrived, according to the fire service.
Humberside Police said: "The incident came as officers across our area were called to deal with a number of reports of fireworks being thrown, or worse, being posted through letter boxes."
Supt Tracy Bradley said: “Our hearts go out to this family, who have now lost their home and their possessions as a result of this mindless incident."
Hull KR are to seek new investment through a private equity company, says recently returned chief executive Paul Lakin.

Laine Jessop, from Swarcliffe, has been putting up her Christmas decorations early for the past eight years.
It started in 2012 after her daughter, Kendal, who was just two years old at the time, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer known as neuroblastoma.
Due to her treatment, Kendal couldn't be at home for the final build-up to Christmas and could only see her family for a full day on Christmas Day.
So, the family then started their tradition of putting the decorations up early so Kendal could experience a full Christmas.
Now, mother-of-three Laine says putting up the lights early is even more appropriate with the country going into lockdown as it "spreads some positivity".
She says: "You wouldn't believe how many people I've already had come out to see the decorations.
"Seeing and hearing people's reactions to the lights and decorations makes it all worthwhile."
Laine adds that she hopes more people will get "a bit more Christmassy" as a result of seeing her festive lights display.
Kendal is now 10 and has been cancer-free for five years after being given the all-clear in 2015.
People are being asked to be patient if they're trying to organise a GP appointment in North Yorkshire as practices across the county are facing an increase in demand.
However, the North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (NYCCG) is reassuring people that GPs are still open, although patients might find it takes a bit longer than normal for their call to be answered.
Health leaders say it's good that people aren't ignoring symptoms of ill health and continue to access medical help.
But with staff being asked to self-isolate as well as the increased pressures due to the coronavirus pandemic, people must be patient with staff, they add.
NYCCG governing body GP Dr Bruce Willoughby says: “We understand some patients are waiting longer to speak to someone when contacting their GP. We want to reassure patients that practices are open, but it may take longer to get through on the phone.
“We hope residents can be patient with us during this time. If it is not an emergency, you can still get medical advice 24/7 by using the NHS 111 service."
Two men who died following an industrial incident in West Yorkshire have been named by police.
Emergency services were called to Castlefield industrial estate, Bingley, at about 15:30 on 29 October.
Daron Pickstock (pictured right), 43, from Chorley, Lancashire, was pronounced dead at the scene. 58-year-old Lee Horton (pictured left), from Ilkley, died in hospital on Friday.
One man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released under investigation.
West Yorkshire Police said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed and were investigating the circumstances of the men's deaths.
A woman was the victim of an "unprovoked" attacked in a York street after a man confronted her about her dog barking at fireworks, police say.
The victim suffered "slight injuries after being pushed to the ground and kicked" at the Heworth Road/East Parade junction shortly before 20:00 on Thursday, according to North Yorkshire Police.
The suspect is described as male, between 30 and 40 years old, about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build, with dark shaggy hair in a bowl-cut style.
The attacker was wearing a black snood with a purple skeleton jaw graphic on the front and a dark leather jacket, officers add.
A police spokesperson said: "We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"In particular, we are appealing for information about the identity of the offender."
Epic Games, the developer behind popular video game Fortnite, has awarded a grant to York St John to help develop a new way of teaching science to primary school children.
The money has been awarded to PhD student Warren Fearn, who will use the $25,000 to look at how augmented reality can be used to teach children.
It's hoped students will be able to learn using new immersive 3D learning experiences like Virtual Reality headsets.
In turn, it's hoped this will encourage pupils to learn digital creative skills early in their education.
Part of Epic Games' MegaGrants programme, $100m is being committed to supporting game developers, students, academics and developers.
Mr Fearn said the grant was "a real opportunity to understand the needs of educators and participants when using augmented reality as a platform for active engagement".
He added: "The research will feed into the curriculum here at York St John and benefit students studying areas around virtual, wearable and visual design for the future.”

Free Christmas parking for shoppers in Scarborough and Whitby when the latest coronavirus lockdown is over has been given the go-ahead.
The latest lockdown - which started today - is currently due to finish on 2 December.
Scarborough Borough Council says it wants to encourage shoppers to spend their money in the festive season locally by suspending charges in some off-street car parks in both towns.
The practice of offering free parking on Thursday and Sundays in the run-up to Christmas in the borough dates back to 1998.
The council approved the annual measure on Wednesday.
Car parks in Filey are already free in December so are not included in the proposal.
