Three pets have been killed and a house destroyed after a firework was put through the letterbox, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
Three fire crews tackled the blaze on Thorpepark Road at about 20:20 last night.
A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: "A fire investigation has been carried out at the property and it has been confirmed it was due to a firework through the letterbox.
"The fire spread to a neighbouring property after its guttering caught fire.
"One dog and two cats were killed in the fire."
All the occupants of the house managed to escape the blaze before fire crews arrived, according to the fire service.
One man was treated by ambulance crews for the effects of breathing in smoke and burns to his hands.
