'Stay safe' plea to Hull residents as infection rates risepublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2021
People in Hull are being reminded it's their responsibility to "stay safe" as the city moved to the top of the national league table for coronavirus infection rates.
Hull now has 171 new weekly cases per 100,000 people, with almost as many Covid patients in the hospitals across Hull and Cottingham as there was in the peak of the first wave of the virus.
Dr Makani Purva, chief medical officer at Hull University Teaching Hospitals said: "We need the hospital environment to be safe for all patients, so we need to bring down the number of Covid patients we have in our hospitals so that we can provide care.
"So every person in the community has a responsibility for staying safe."
