It happened at about 16:25 on Friday 5 March when the victim, a 22-year-old man, met an unknown man at premises on St Mary's Road to sell a PlayStation games console.

It's believed that as the victim was unboxing the console to show the buyer the contents, the man pulled a knife from his trousers, pointed it at the victim and attempted to steal the PlayStation.

The victim, helped by a passer-by, challenged the man for the console and the knife and the man fled the scene before police arrived.

Officers say they're "keen" to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV image above as they believe he can help them with their inquiries.

The £145m plans will get under way within weeks of its pubs reopening fully as the coronavirus lockdown eases, the firm says.

A total of 18 new pubs will opened and "significant extensions and upgrades" will be made to scores of current pubs, it adds.

The first new pubs and extensions will be in towns and cities including Sheffield, Leeds, Birmingham, Felixstowe, Dublin and Glasgow.

Once all 75 projects in the pipeline are completed, Wetherspoon said it anticipates investing £750m to open 15 new pubs and enlarging 50 existing pubs each year for 10 years, creating 20,000 new jobs.

However, Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said: "The investment is conditional on the UK opening back up again on a long-term basis, with no further lockdowns or the constant changing of rules."

  9. Liberty Steel nationalisation 'an option' - Governmentpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 30 March 2021

    BBC Business News

The government has restated it is considering "all options" to keep Liberty Steel's UK plants afloat - including its sites in South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

    Liberty Steel, Stocksbridge

On Sunday, the government rejected a request for £170m in financial support for the firm, which has plants in Stocksbridge (pictured), Rotherham and Scunthorpe.

But that is due to concerns about the "very opaque" structure of its owner GFG, a minister said.

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said the government could not put money into a "black box".

Mr Kwarteng told the BBC's Today programme that Liberty Steel was "an important national asset" but that the structure of its owner - Gupta Family Group (GFG) - was "very opaque" and "not helpful".

"We are custodians of taxpayer's money...and we feel that if we gave the (£170m) money, there was no guarantee the money would stay in the UK, and would protect British jobs," he said.

Liberty Steel's founder, Sanjeev Gupta, is trying to refinance GFG after its key financial backer Greensill Capital filed for insolvency earlier this month.

Mr Kwarteng said he wanted to see Mr Gupta's plans "work through" before the government took any further action.

There are 5,000 staff employed at Liberty's 12 UK sites. Mr Gupta's empire employs 35,000 people worldwide.

Mr Kwarteng said "all options are on the table" to keep Liberty Steel jobs and plants going, including nationalisation.

"We think that the steel industry has a future in the UK," he said.

  12. Woman left with brain injuries in Doncaster 'hit and run'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 30 March 2021

A 76-year-old woman was left seriously hurt after a "hit and run" incident in Doncaster on Monday, police say.

    Littlemoor Lane, BalbyImage source, Google

It happened at about 09:10 yesterday on Littlemoor Lane in Balby and involved a white Ford Transit Tipper.

It's thought the Transit collided with the woman while the driver was attempting to reverse.

The driver and the passenger got out of the vehicle and saw the woman on the floor before leaving the scene, South Yorkshire Police believe.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her brain and pelvis and was taken to Hallamshire Hospital for treatment.

The Transit van was later found elsewhere in Doncaster.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been released under investigation, according to police.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remains in custody, officers add.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has dash camera footage of the incident, is being asked to get in touch with South Yorkshire Police.

From Monday, people have been allowed to meet in a public place or garden under the government's "rule of six" restrictions, or as two households.

Meanwhile, outdoor sports facilities have also reopened, formally organised outdoor sports are restarting and weddings can take place with up to six people in attendance.

Humberside Police's Deputy Chief Constable Paul Andersaon says the past year has been "a challenging time for many, a year unlike no other".

However, as restrictions are eased, he says: "This is not a time to become complacent or to forget all of the hard work that has gone into the last few months.

"Adhering to the guidelines and preventing the spread of the virus must remain as a top priority for everyone.

"Where possible, we are asking for people to stay at home and the advice of staying local remains."

He adds that Humberside Police officers will be patrolling "hot spot areas" and "will not hesitate to use enforcement where we need to and where there are blatant breaches of restrictions".

The software, known as BuBul, enables new company bosses to receive advice from 30 business experts in a "virtual room".

The platform is free to start-ups and gives users tailored recommendations for their businesses, based on their answers to a survey.

Founder David Greenwood, who's from Baildon, says: "When you're starting a business, there's a lot to do. There's a lot to think about, a lot to plan.

"You've got to think about the business and manage it, as well as doing all the work. It's simply impossible for somebody who's starting a new business to think about what they have to do."

David Spicer, from the University of Bradford's School of Management, adds: "We are delighted to see the launch of BuBul and look forward to seeing this delivering real benefits for small and medium-sized enterprises.

"This creates great opportunities for us and our students to learn on live business challenges, too.”

The 2020 festival was called off due to the pandemic.

Melvin Benn says this year's festival will have a dedicated Covid medical team on-site, and all the necessary measures will be put in place to keep people safe.

"Almost certainly we will have to evidence that we are either Covid-clear or vaccinated.

"Whether we do that by a bit of paper from the doctor or whether it's a digital passport I'm not quite sure which one that will be yet but I suspect it will have to be one of the two", he said.

Headliners will be Stormzy (pictured), Liam Gallagher, Post Malone, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Disclosure and Queens Of The Stone Age.

The festival is due to take place from 27 to 29 August at Bramham Park in Leeds.

  18. 'Increased' moorland fire risk prompts BBQ ban reminderpublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 30 March 2021

People are being urged to stick to the "no BBQ" rule on Marsden Moor in West Yorkshire amid warnings of an "increased risk" of moorland fires in coming weeks.

    Smoke over Marsden Moor

A combination of rising temperatures and further easing of coronavirus restrictions means moorland fires are far more likely, according to National Trust rangers.

Fires and BBQs are banned on the moors all year round and rangers are reminding visitors that defying the ban could result in a fine of up to £2,000.

Countryside manager for the National Trust, Craig Best, said, “We want the public to help us protect this landscape by leaving the BBQ at home and bringing a picnic to the moors instead.

"We’ll be increasing our patrols and working closely with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to try and keep this landscape safe."

Mr Best added: “All moorland fires are started by people; either by litter, dropped cigarettes, BBQs or deliberately."

The ban on BBQs and fires on Marsden Moor runs all year round and is part of a Public Spaces Protection Order.

An estimated £500,000 worth of damage to 700 hectares of the moor was caused by a fire in April 2019 which was thought to have been started by a BBQ.

The blaze destroyed 7 sq km of peatland habitat.

The Marsden Moor fire came the day after several fires on Ilkley Moor, one of which saw a 20-year-old Bradford man jailed for 27 months for arson after being found guilty of starting it with a cigarette lighter for the "fun of it".
