Reworked, based in Hull, is turning our old face masks into chairs, bins and benches.

Businesses can pack up all their discarded PPE into cardboard boxes and then send it away to their site to be recycled.

Customers can also drop their used face coverings into special bins at selected Wilko stores across the region.

Izzie Glazzard from Reworked said:"It's a tricky process and to start with the PPE has to go into its very own mini lockdown and then it's washed, cleaned and shredded... and then it goes into a giant machine, like a big waffle maker, to be made into boards. We've even made PPE collection bins out of the old PPE."

Jim Morton planned to initially do the route in 1978, visiting lighthouses on the way after becoming "fascinated" by them when they featured on a TV programme.

"The summer of 1968 brought my first visit to a lighthouse at Flamborough and from then on I decided I must see them all so decided the best way to do this would be to walk around the coast," he told The Gurkha Welfare Trust, the charity he's raising money for.

Mr Morton's stay in the Royal Navy lasted longer than he anticipated, postponing his walking challenge.

On Monday, he restarted the challenge by taking his first steps towards Manchester.

"It's going great," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I can't believe people's generosity. We had a knock on the [support] motorhome door last night and it was someone I'd been in the vavy with 40-odd years ago onboard HMS Gurkha.

"They knocked on the door and produced a bottle of Lamb's Navy Rum. It's the little things that makes it all worthwhile."

This trend has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and multiple lockdowns across the UK, Lincolnshire Police said.

Chief Constable Chris Haward said he is expecting further increases in mental health reports as the county leaves lockdown.

Mr Haward said: “Whilst we can respond to the initial crisis, it’s actually how do we deal with those people in crisis once the police have been, and how do we engage mental health practitioners, how do we engage with the NHS and how do we work as a partnership to try and help these people who are so vulnerable?"

Young people appeared to be hit more disproportionately than anybody else, he said.

“As an emergency service, we’ve got to be there to help with that but we’ve also got to be mindful that there is a wider response that is required here from our health partners, ambulance services and our local authorities about what that care might look like in the community,” he added.
