    More than 100 bags of rubbish and other dumped items including televisions and fridges were cleared from a two-mile stretch of the River Hull near Beverley at the weekend.

    The Wombles of Beverley and the Kingston Kayak club, which both pick litter, joined forces yesterday to clean up the area.

    Sarah Jones (pictured), who helped pick up the rubbish said: "It was only a very short stretch of river but we collected lots of cans of lager and cider and several tyres. We also found lots of crisp packets and sweet wrappers."

    Along with the bags of rubbish collectors say they found a scooter, a television, an armchair and two fridges.

    Volunteers say another litter pick is planned to happen in the same area soon.

    The pair were arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man who was stabbed outside the Freemans Arms on Freeman Street on Saturday night, according to Humberside Police.

    Emergency services were called to the scene just after 21:00, the force said.

    Humberside Police said the family of the 36-year-old, who died a short time after arriving at hospital, had been informed and were being supported.

    A force spokesman said the stabbing was believed to be an "isolated incident".

    Two people thought to have witnessed a car being driven at two men in West Yorkshire are being sought by police.

    A car was driven at two men during an "altercation" in Park Road in the Colton area of Leeds shortly after 18:00 on Thursday 8 April, police said.

    One of the men was struck on the hand by the vehicle.

    A 64-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and dangerous driving and was later released on bail, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    The two people in the CCTV image (above) are believed to have witnessed the incident and officers say they would like to speak to them.

    A spokesperson for the force said: "They were seen walking a large dog in Park Road. It's hoped they will recognise themselves and make contact."

    Anyone who knows who the people are in the CCTV image is being asked to contact police.

    A man's died and two people have been injured in a collision between an ambulance and an HGV near Pocklington in East Yorkshire, say police.

    Emergency services were called to the A1079 Hull Road, between Wilberfoss and Barmby Moor, at about 15:30 yesterday, according to Humberside Police.

    One man died at the scene, police said.

    Two others, a man and woman, were taken to hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The injured man remains in a serious condition, officers confirmed.

    Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage from the time of the incident, is being asked to contact police.
