From 19 July, the government is relaxing some rules around mask wearing and social distancing, as part of the final steps of the coronavirus road map.

However, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says people will be expected to continue some practices while accessing services.

Amanda Stanford, chief nurse and infection prevention lead at Airedale NHS foundation trust said while rules are changing, it's important to remember the pandemic "is very much here".

She added: "We must continue to exercise caution in all settings – in particular where there are likely to be vulnerable patients.

“By continuing to wear face coverings and following any other on-site advice, we will work together to keep our patients, their families and our colleagues safe."

  15. Admissions stopped at 'inadequate' Sheffield care unitpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 15 July 2021

An "unsafe" learning disability and autism unit has been forced to stop taking admissions after being rated as "inadequate" by inspectors.

    Firshill RiseImage source, Google

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Assessment and Treatment Service at Firshill Rise in Sheffield was not safe, effective, caring, responsive or well led.

"People experienced harm because of a lack of protection, they experienced abusive incidents, restraint and seclusion," its report said. "People had poor relationships with staff which were not therapeutic."

Untrained staff had not acted on safeguarding concerns, the report said, with people's requests for food or drink being ignored.

The Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) service is meant to provide support to people with a learning disability or autism, the CQC said.

But activities provided for service users included vaping, washing up, visiting a car park and watching TV, which were not therapeutic and would not help them with recovery.

A spokesperson for SHSC said it was "very concerned" by the findings and vowed to improve care.

Medical director Mike Hunter said he was "very sorry" the unit didn't deliver good care consistently.

He added: "We have now temporarily closed the unit to admissions to give us time to make the required changes including training for staff and thinking carefully about how we provide services in the future."

Flower pots and flags were damaged at the Mi Amigo memorial in Endcliffe Park at the weekend, according to photos posted by BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker.

Mr Walker helped organise a flypast to honour the work of local man Tony Foulds, who has helped care for the memorial.

The site was installed to remember 10 American airmen who died in a crash in the park in 1944.

Mr Walker said Mr Foulds was "devastated" at seeing the damage on Saturday.

Pat Davey, chair of the Sheffield and District Joint Council of Ex-Service Associations, said it was a "disgusting state of affairs" to be forced to install cameras.

She said: "These people who do it, they don't seem to realise or appreciate that their freedom to do that was bought by the deaths of many of hundreds of thousands of people in the First and Second World War and this is how they repay that sacrifice."
