  9. Jonny Brownlee: Tokyo 2020 'probably my last Olympics'published at 09:33 British Summer Time 3 August 2021

    BBC Radio Leeds

Gold medal-winning triathlete Jonny Brownlee says Tokyo was "probably" his last Olympics but he's not ruling out trying to qualify for Paris in 2024.

    Jonny Brownlee

Jonny, from Leeds, was part of the British team that won the first ever mixed relay at the weekend. It was his first gold medal, having previously won silver and bronze.

Back home in the UK he told the BBC: "It doesn't really feel real at the moment. I've achieved more than anything I ever dreamed of achieving in the Olympic Games, so to complete the set is seriously special."

His brother Alistair has won gold medals at two previous Olympics, but didn't compete this year.

"I think I'm ahead of Alistair already," said Jonny. "Well, I tell him that. But I think if I got another gold, I'd definitely be ahead of Alistair, and there'd be no doubt of that."

However, he said is immediate plan is to enjoy being an Olympic champion: "One of the things I've not done great in my career is, after achieving something, I've moved onto the next goal very quickly. So I'm going to have an easy week now, and take it all in, and see."

And what about the next Olympics, in 2024? Jonny thinks there's still a chance: "After crossing the finish line in the relay, I thought, 'right, maybe I can do it'.

"So I've changed my answer from 'it'll definitely be my last Olympics' to 'it'll probably be my last Olympics'."

The Asylum festival - held annually in August - attracts up to 100,000 people each year and is believed to be worth about £2.5m to the local economy.

The festival will now return in 2022.

Organiser John Naylor said: "Lincoln has provided a spectacular backdrop for the steampunk community's creativity since 2009, so we are delighted to be able to return.

"Covid looked like putting the kybosh on absolutely everything - so to be able to come out the other side, with a plan to build and be more spectacular is just phenomenal," he said.

He added: "What I'm really hoping for is Lincoln will end up with a festival as big and world-famous as the Edinburgh Fringe."

"Jessica's never under pressure when she races on her own. She's really calm. But in a relay you've got in the back of your mind you've got to perform for other people, not just yourself."

Learmonth is expected to arrive back in the UK later today and her family are planning a celebration for the weekend, though her father said she may need reminding to bring the medal.

"She'll probably just show up in a t-shirt saying 'I'm just going to my mum and dad's for something eat'," he said

"She'll have to be reminded that people will want to see the medal and track suit and everything."
