    Lincolnshire Police's control room have said they have had a number of calls regarding the snow and the issues it is causing.

    The control room urged people to take care on the roads.

    Lincolnshire County Council has said its gritting teams were out "all hours" to try and keep routes clear.

    The A15, between Haconby and Folkingham, is one road which is impassable due to snow and a broken-down lorry.

    It appears a car has crashed into a traffic camera at Sutton Bank in North Yorkshire.

    The traffic camera image (above) shows a car directly below the post with the camera on it.

    North Yorkshire Police said a Jaguar had hit the barrier beneath the camera at about 20:00 GMT.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crash involved two vehicles, but all the occupants were out of their cars when they arrived and one woman was treated for minor injuries.

    Rail passengers are being urged to check before travelling this morning.

    Norrhern Rail said there were "multiple weather-related disruptions" across its network and TransPennine said it expected delays on services due to "difficult operating conditions".

    LNER has cancelled several services on the East Coast mainline due to a "shortage of train crews", but has not said if that is due to the weather conditions.

    Grand Central said some of its services had also been impacted.

    East Midlands has made changes to a number of its routes.

    It added that it had also suspended services between Sleaford, Lincolnshire and Peterborough due to heavy snow affecting level crossing equipment.

    Weatherwatcher CJ sent this image of her children stuck waist-deep in the white stuff as they attempted to get to school in West Yorkshire's Holme Valley this morning.

  5. Gritters hit priority routes in Sheffieldpublished at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2023

    In Sheffield, where a number of bus services have been suspended, Street Ahead have said its gritters are out and about clearing roads.

    It said its teams would be concentrating on priority routes.

    And said a map of those was available on its website, external along with the locations of grit bins.

    A spokesperson added that people should only travel if "absolutely necessary".

  6. 'Most scenic' bus route suspendedpublished at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2023

    Coastliner, which runs buses between Leeds and the Yorkshire coast, has said its 840 service has been suspended between Whitby and Malton.

    The route was once voted Britain's most scenic and runs across the North York Moors National Park.

    Coastliner said suspending the service was due to the extreme weather and road conditions.

  7. Update as thousands left without powerpublished at 08:37 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2023

    Northern Powergrid has said it is assessing the impact of the weather as thousand of people across Yorkshire have been left without power this morning.

    It said its teams have been mobilised to restore supplies "as safely and quickly" as possible.

    However, the company said due to the weather conditions it would only provide "generalised estimates" of times it would be able to restore power.

    Estimates suggest around 5,000 homes are without power in West Yorkshire, 3,700 in South Yorkshire and about 300 in North Yorkshire.

    North Yorkshire Police have urged people not to travel unless essential after several vehicles became stranded in the snow.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said its crews had recovered many trapped vehicles, including a 4x4.

    Officers said driving conditions have been horrendous in many parts of the county, particularly in Harrogate, Scarborough and at Sutton Bank.

    Stagecoach has become the latest bus company to suspend its services due to the weather conditions.

    It tweeted that services in both West and South Yorkshire were affected:

    Hundreds of thousands of children across Yorkshire will be getting a snow day today.

    Thousands of schools across North, South and West Yorkshire have been forced to close their doors.

    In Bradford, the council website lists just under 200 as closed while in Leeds around 200 have also been shut.

    It's a similar situation in South Yorkshire with many in Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster not open for pupils.

    In North Yorkshire, difficult driving conditions and the inability to get staff to the site, as well as pupils, have meant numerous schools have been forced to close.

    To find out which schools near you are closed, check with your local BBC radio station or check with the school's social media channels.

    National Highways have updated us on the situation on the M62, where several drivers were stranded for hours due to the snow.

    It said one lane remains closed on the M62 in West Yorkshire as gritters and ploughs continue to treat the road.

    A spokesperson said crews had been working since 03:50 GMT on the westbound carriageway between junction 23 (Huddersfield) and junction 22 (Denshaw).

    Lane two opened at 05:12, lane three remains closed, with four miles of congestion and a 30 minute delay, they added.

    "After yesterday’s severe weather alert, external National Highways staff spent the day spreading salt on key routes in preparation for the testing conditions."

    National Highways is asking everyone travelling in the region to consider if their journey is essential and to go prepared.

    First Bus has said its services across South Yorkshire are currently suspended due to weather conditions.

    Simon Dorran, from First Bus South Yorkshire, said they hoped to reinstate routes on main corridors throughout the day, but that was dependent on weather conditions.

    "We are putting out the X1 and X10 service shortly which will operate between Sheffield and Rotherham on the main corridor,"

    He added the company was also being affected by abandoned cars.

    Amber and yellow warnings for snow remain in place for much of Yorkshire this morning.

    The amber warning, external for heavy snow runs down the west of Yorkshire and is due to remain in force until noon today.

    The yellow warning, external for snow covers the whole region and is due to remain in place until 14:00 GMT.

    The Met Office has warned of significant disruption to both rail and air services, travel delays on roads with the risk of people being stranded.

    It has also warned of possible power cuts.

    Thousands of properties are without power this morning in Yorkshire after the increased snowfall overnight.

    More than 5,000 homes and businesses are without electric this morning across South Yorkshire.

    In West Yorkshire, it's been Huddersfield which has been hardest hit with around 2,000 properties off the grid.

    The figures, fromnetwork operator Northern Powergrid, external, also show pockets of properties without power across the region.

    Heavy snow overnight has brought treacherous conditions across much of Yorkshire, with heavy congestion on the M62.

    Some drivers have reported being stuck for hours between Rochdale and Huddersfield on the M62.

    Two lanes have been closed between junctions 20 and 22, leading to long tailbacks.

    A severe weather warning, external from National Highways remains in place across the North East, Midlands, and North West until 08:00 GMT this morning.

    A spokesperson for the agency said: "We are managing traffic in the safest manner given the weather conditions."

    An amber weather warning for snow is in place for parts of Yorkshire overnight with up to 40cm (16in) of snow forecast.

    The amber warning, which started at 15:00GMT, means there is an increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather.

    It is in place until 12:00 GMT on Friday, according to the Met Office., external

    "Heavy snow is likely to cause significant disruption on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning," it said.

    The Met Office is warning travel delays on roads are expected with some vehicles possibly becoming stranded.

    It said power cuts are likely with some rural communities becoming cut off.

    Winds over higher ground could lead to blizzard conditions, with temperatures dropping to 0C (32F).

    Tomorrow, it is expected to get warmer with rain in the morning that could clear some snow.

    If you're planning to get the bus this evening or tomorrow, here's what you need to know as the amber weather warning continues.

    In South Yorkshire, most buses are running as normal with some slight delays.

    Stagecoach Yorkshire said adverse weather conditions were impacting a handful of services in Barnsley, although most services were running to time.

    First Bus in South Yorkshire advised people to check before they travel, with the 1A/11, 120, 81/82, 84A/84B all diverting from their advertised route.

    In West Yorkshire, First Bus said most buses were running with minimal delays.

    However, the following services were affected:

    • 301/2 Yellow Line- Terminating Milnsbridge
    • 328 Lime Line - Terminating Crossland Hill, no service to Balmoral Avenue. Bradley side operating a good service
    • 537- Operating to Mount, Ainley Top into Elland, no service to Stainland/Outland/Sowood
