    Leicester Hospitals Trust says delays, like that experienced by Gloria Joseph, won't stop until fewer people need emergency care.

    Richard Mitchell, the trust's chief operating officer, said: “To dramatically reduce the number of ambulance handover delays we must reduce the numbers of people needing emergency care. This is a priority for the local health economy this year."

    Mr Mitchell says the emergency department recently broke its record for the highest number of emergency admissions in one week and the highest number of attendances.

    A bit more now on The Crescent in Hinckley as the £80m development reaches a new milestone.

    The new Cineworld cinema is putting on a private "premiere screening" of Frankenstein tonight before it opens to the public on Friday.

    Councillor Mike Hall, leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, says: "It's been so long since Hinckley had a cinema and people are looking forward to that and all the other businesses, the restaurants, the pubs that are going with it.

    "It should be really good, not just for the people of Hinckley, but probably people that have never been to Hinckley before will come and see what we have to offer."

    When asked about the delay in getting to Gloria Joseph, East Midlands Ambulance Service said they took more than 2,000 urgent calls on Monday night - an average of one every 37 seconds - which put extra pressure on their system.

    EMAS also blamed handover times at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

    It said: "On Monday afternoon (16:00-19:00 the time of the delay) around 10 ambulance crews were waiting to handover their patient at LRI which amounts to 87 hours (for the whole of Monday) where our crews were unable to respond to emergencies out in the community."

    They say the issue has now been resolved and she's come down safely.

    Birstall parish councillors have responded on social media to criticism of their Christmas tree by saying that they wanted to deliver "improvements" to the tree and light switch-on event after people had complained about their efforts in recent years.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, Conrad Dore says it's "very worrying" that his 80-year-old diabetic mother Gloria had to wait two hours for an ambulance.

    Conrad said he was frightened his mum would die while waiting for the ambulance. He said: "She was shaking, she was moaning that it was hurting.

    "We just made sure she was warm, covered her in blankets, put pillows down and phoned the ambulance again but there was nothing I could do."
