    Leicester's flood volunteers were mostly from the Muslim community but others also joined in.

    They went to Lancashire and York and helped with things like moving sofas, pulling up carpets and distributing bottled water.

    Riaz Khan said people were so shocked and grateful that the team had travelled all the way from Leicester to help them.

    Riaz says there were communities caught up in the Yorkshire and Lancashire floods that seemed to have been "overlooked" by the authorities.

    They went to a travellers site and when they arrived they described it as a ghost town with piles of stuff outside.

    They said it was neck deep in sewage water and the electrics were still live.

    This is Riaz Khan and Arif Voraji from Leicester.

    They were so horrified by the images of the flooding in the north of the UK that they decided to go and help.

    But it wasn't just them...

    They managed to round up around 20 people from Leicester along with supplies of things like mops, brooms, buckets and dehumidifiers.

    Dawn Bradley-alesbrook says: "Disgusting, dog owners should put the poo bags in the bins provided, it's not down to the Rangers to pick someone else's poo up that their dog has done."

    Sally Birch says: "I see these poo bags everywhere! Tied up, presumably with poo in them.... I don't get it, they pick up the poo, then drop the bag?!"

    Duncan Rees, from Central Leicester Fire station, is one of those handing in the petition today.

    He's been speaking to BBC Radio Leicester this morning about recent events that he says have made more people realise how important the service is.

    He says: "Last week the fire at Ross Walk, which I was at all night, was a 12 fire engine fire.

    "We've also had two other fires that involved at least 10 fire engines, one in Coalville and one on Frog Island so it's been a very busy period and it's made people focus on the need for front line service."

  11. Fire cuts consultation responses 'collated and analysed'published at 10:46

    Here's a statement from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service about the petition.

    It says: "The Integrated Risk Management Plan consultation closed on 4th December 2015. 

    "We have since collated and analysed all the responses received by the stipulated deadlines, regardless of the format, and produced a final draft report.

    "The report is being considered by senior managers this week before being sent to Combined Fire Authority Members in advance of their meeting on the 10th February."

    Here's some background detail on that fire cuts petition.

    Last year the local fire authority revealed cost-cutting plans that would see the main fire station in Leicester and one in Kibworth close.

    Eight fire engines would also go and the number of firefighters would be reduced.

    Over the past few months, meetings have been held at fire stations across the county that attracted lots of concerned residents.

    Students at De Montfort University also spoke out against the plans.

    Moving on now to a story about cuts to the fire service in Leicestershire.

    A petition against the cuts is being handed in to the leader of Leicester City Council today.

    Almost 12,000 people have signed it.

    Rangers at Bradgate Park are urging dog walkers to bin their used dog poo bags or take them home.

    Park director Peter Tyldesley told BBC Radio Leicester: "A biodegradable poo bag means if you chuck it in a landfill site it'll break down in six months, it doesn't mean you can just drop it in the countryside and expect it to be gone the next day.

    "We find poo bags tied to trees, chucked in the long grass, thrown over walls and often we don't find them, the wildlife find them."
