    A £5.5m redevelopment of the livestock market in Melton Mowbray has been approved. 

    Central government has approved a Local Growth Fund Grant meaning the council can get the ball rolling.

    Contractors will move onto the site in May with demolition starting in June. 

    The livestock market will remain open while the work is carried out.

    Tomorrow BBC Radio 5 Live is broadcasting a special program all about this season's huge turn around for Leicester City.

    It starts at 19:30 and will be presented by Mark Pougatch and Pat Murphy.

    Guests include Martin O'Neill, Tony Pulis, captain Wes Morgan, Gary Lineker and the Hollywood film producer who is planning to make a movie about Jamie Vardy.

    Two men from Leicester have been jailed after police in Hertfordshire caught them with nearly £3,000 worth of drugs stashed in the boot of their car.

    Police found over 10 kilos of amphetamine, a block of cannabis resin and 940 grams of cocaine.

    After 29-year-old Jon Staley was arrested, police in Leicester found a small cannabis factory in the hallway of his flat in Grassington Close.

    Staley was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison. Thomas Sharpe, 27, from Chestnut Road in Glenfield was jailed for four years.

    Police have stopped nearly 70 drivers in Kibworth to check the road worthiness of their vehicle., external

    Of the 68 vehicles stopped on the A6, four were deemed not to be roadworthy.

    A further seven were seized by the police because they were being driven without insurance.

    Police also gave out 22 tickets to drivers for things like the condition of their tyres, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving.

  12. Thatched roof fire in Staplefordpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2016

    Two thatched cottages have been damaged by a fire in Stapleford.

    The fire service were called just after 21:00 to reports of a chimney fire at one of the homes.

    Three crews went to put it out, they then called for the assistance of others to stop the fire from spreading.

    The fire did spread to a second house but two others were saved.

    Crews are still there damping down. The cause of the fire is unknown.

    Leicester City have officially been invited to the International Champions Cup.

    The invite to this competition is prestigious and will provide Claudio’s men with some real tests ahead of next season’s Premier League, and hopefully Champions League campaign.

    The fact the Foxes will face footballing giants like Celtic, Paris St Germain and Barcelona is still astonishing.

    Yes, it’s in a semi-competitive environment but still I’m sure Lionel Messi and co will be entertaining on the eye (especially when City’s defenders are showing them who’s boss).

    From today, up to a million 12 and 13-year-olds will be helped in their understanding of computing and coding by a new BBC initiative.
