    A charity called Electrical Safety First is trying to support and advise people with these potentially dangerous tumble dryers.

    Emma Apter from the organisation says: "There are lots of these tumble dryers out there and we're seeing time and time again people are having fires caused by them.

    "The advice being given out by the manufacturer is that it's still alright to use them as long as you're staying with them when you're using them. From our perspective, that's not good enough."

    Leicestershire Police are talking with Leicester City Football Club after offensive tweets were posted about Jamie Vardy's family on social media. 

    Officers say no formal complaint has yet been made to the force.

    The offensive tweets were made following a picture of Jamie Vardy's daughter being posted on his Twitter page.

    The Foxes striker has called the comments "shocking and vile".

  4. Environment Agency heading to lorry crash in Lockingtonpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 4 April 2016

    A 20-tonne lorry has come off the road near Castle Donington and is on its side in a field.

    It happened on Church Lane in Lockington just after 09:00.

    The lorry is leaking diesel and fire crews are trying to stem the flow while they wait for the Environment Agency to arrive.

    The driver has been treated by paramedics for minor injuries and recovery of the lorry is being arranged.

    Three people from Leicester have been charged with a kidnapping in Bulwell last week, external and are due to appear before Nottingham magistrates today.

    Another man was also arrested but has been released without further action.

    A 20-year-old man involved in the alleged kidnapping has some minor injures.

    This isn't the first time we've heard about tumble dryers causing fires.

    Dryers made by Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit between 2004 and 2015 have been identified as a potential safety risk because they allow lint to build up against the heating element.

    The company claims the dryers are still safe to use but they ask owners to clean the filter every time and not to leave the machine unattended.

    Matthew McMullan has been describing the moment the tumble dryer caught fire.

    He said he was woken by the noise and smell at around 03:00. 

    He shouted to his wife that they had to get out so they each grabbed one of their two children and ran downstairs.

    He says: "Just before I did leave I noticed the smoke building up in the dining room so I quickly shut the door between the dining room and the kitchen, the fire brigade said if I hadn't done that we could have lost all of the house."

  11. Four involved in Leicester RTCpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 4 April 2016

    Some more now on that crash in Leicester this morning.

    It was at the junction between Upperton Road and Raw Dykes Road

    East Midlands Ambulance Service say there were four casualties, one was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be cut out by the fire service. 

    Two of the people hurt were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

    It's been two weeks since the fire and now the McMullan family are calling on Hotpoint to do more to protect customers who own the same make of tumble drier.

    Matthew McMullan says: "I just want Hotpoint to realise they've got this major problem on their hands and they need to do something about it now.

    "I know there's probably millions of tumble dryers - to me that's a million that are a potential threat.

    "We were lucky, somebody else might not be."

    Quite a worrying story now about tumble dryers - so many of us have them but how safe are they?

    A Leicestershire family have been told by insurers that their tumble drier was behind a "major" fire in their house.

    Matthew and Lattina McMullan and their two children were asleep at their home in Earl Shilton when their faulty Hotpoint dryer went up in flames.

    Talking after the game yesterday he said it's important to keep fighting and to concentrate at this stage.

    He said however a slight slip in performance would be "normal".

    There's been a big drop in the amount of people being arrested for cannabis possession in England and Wales, including here in Leicestershire.

    Nationally the number has fallen by 46% since 2010 but figures for Leicestershire show an even bigger fall.

    Police questioned 614 people here last year compared with almost 2,400 in 2010. 

    That's a fall of 74%.

    Another story you may have read over the weekend was about doping allegations made by the Sunday Times.

    The paper claims a doctor prescribed banned performance-enhancing drugs to footballers at three Premier League clubs, including Leicester.

    The club has denied the allegations, saying: "We are extremely disappointed that The Sunday Times has published unsubstantiated allegations referring to players from clubs including Leicester City when, on its own admission, it has insufficient evidence to support the claims."
