    Of the 7,700 empty homes in the county, 700 of them are in Charnwood.

    Councillor Paul Mercer, from Charnwood Borough Council, says: "We're about to employ an empty homes officer who will actively work to seek out and to encourage these properties to be either put on the market to rent or to be sold."

    A Leicester charity has managed to secure a grant to buy four empty homes in the city and bring them back into use for homeless people. 

    Action Homeless is set to receive £140,000 which it will use to refurbish properties to create safe and secure homes. 

    There are more than 7,700 empty homes across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

    The city council has warned people to expect disruption on Monday, external and to travel in advance of the parade to mark Leicester's title-winning season - a number of roads will also be closed.

    City became champions of England for the first time in their 132-year history on 2 May when Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea.
