    Councillor Piara Singh Clair has been defending the decision to move the Diwali Fireworks to Abbey Park.

    He said: "It was on the advice of the safety executive but we are happy to review that because even we noticed on the day of the switch-on it didn't have the impact that it would have done otherwise."

    Harry in Syston agrees it wasn't clear that the firework display last night had been moved from Cossington Park.

    He told BBC Radio Leicester everybody was waiting for the 20:10 start then they all started going off behind them.

    He says the trees were blocking the view so everyone was trying to move at the same time: "It was like a cattle market, people were pushing, it wasn't safe."

    A man died in a car crash in Coleorton, external yesterday morning.

    It happened on the A512 Loughborough Road at about 01:50.

    The driver of one car was pronounced dead at the scene - the driver of another car was also injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

    It seems the main upset over the firework display was the confusion over where over where they were happening.

    A lot of people were under the impression they were at Cossington Park when actually they were at Abbey Park.

    Abdullah Rathor says on Facebook, external: "At the spot we were waiting at in Cossington Park with kids we could hardly see any fireworks. Kids were really disappointed."

    A mum in Rutland contacted police on Twitter, external last night to say: "Unbelievable two 10-year-olds spend their evening carving pumpkins and idiots steal them from the front door."

    Hundreds of people marched in protest over plans to stop children's heart surgery services at Glenfield Hospital.

    NHS England say the closure is necessary because the hospital trust has failed to meet new requirements.
