    A woman who became a "figure of horror" by driving an elderly couple into more than £70,000 of debt has avoided jail.

    Barbara Stone, 62, worked for Leicester-based Aspire magazine when she pressured John and Olga Moyle into buying advertising space.

    Stone, who admitted two counts of fraud at an earlier hearing, was given a 22 month suspended sentence.

    Daughter Franny Moyle said the debt forced them to sell their home and hastened her mother's death.

    A spokesperson said: “Kayleigh was a vulnerable girl targeted by online predators searching for victims to abuse.

    “Her tragic story shows the serious dangers that young people face every time they log on. It is vital that parents talk to their children about what they are doing online and are aware of the risks."

    Victoria’s mother, Carol Gayle, has issued a statement following the sentencing today.

    She said: “On 1 June 2016 I said goodbye to my daughter at the airport hoping to see each other again in two weeks.

    “Victoria was a loving, caring compassionate and selfless young woman, who gave of herself in life and death.

    “Victoria's death has shattered the entire family, friends and community we are all devastated and still struggling to come to terms with her untimely death.”

    Javid pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene and was given a 40-month custodial sentence.

    He will serve 20 months in detention before being released on licence. He has also been disqualified from driving for 56 months.

    Judge Robert Brown said an accident reconstruction had shown if he had been driving within the speed limit he would have been able to stop before hitting her.

    Victoria Gayle, 25, had been visiting the UK from Canada. She and a friend had hired bicycles earlier in the day and had been out at Bradgate Park.

    The crash happened shortly after midnight on 6 June 2016 on Upperton Road.

    Javid initially failed to stop at the scene but later turned around and drove back.

    A man who hit and killed a cyclist while he was driving "like a boy racer" has been detained for causing her death by dangerous driving.

    Muhammad Javid's speed had reached 67mph on a 30mph road shortly before the accident - he was still travelling between 32 and 40mph when he hit Victoria Gayle.

    Miss Gayle, who had been crossing a road in Leicester, hit his windscreen and was "thrown through the air", the prosecution said.

    Cold calling sales rep Barbara Stone from Leicester is being sentenced for fraud after pressuring an elderly couple into paying £74k for ads.

    The court heard John and Olga Moyle were "hounded to death" and "drowning in a sea of paperwork, debt and confusion" after Stone targeted them.

    Barbara Stone's defence lawyer said she offered an apology to victims and their families and was "in terror" at a custodial sentence.

    Judge Robert Brown told Cordwell: "You groomed her. Your intention was that you would meet her and your intention thereafter was that you would have sexual intercourse with her. 

    "You never actually met her and you had not agreed or even proposed a date, time or place of rendezvous, but this type of offence is child abuse and it calls for a custodial sentence."

    Cordwell's conversations with Kayleigh were discovered by police during their investigation into Kayleigh's disappearance and death.

    He had sent her messages of a sexual nature and naked photos of himself - he also repeatedly asked her to meet up with him.

    He sent her a message on 16 November when he heard that she had gone missing, saying: "You need to get home now, your parents are worried sick about you. You are only 15."

    Kayleigh, who was from Measham, chatted online with Cordwell between 10 and 13 November. At the same time she was chatting to another man called Luke Harlow.

    Kayleigh never met up with Cordwell but she did go and stay at Harlow's flat in Ibstock on Friday 13 November.

    Harlow engaged in sexual activity with Kayleigh and he also falsely imprisoned her with the help of Beadman who went on to rape and kill her.

    A man who attempted to meet schoolgirl Kayleigh Haywood for sex days before she was raped and murdered has been sentenced to 43 months in a young offenders' institute.

    Bruce Cordwell contacted the 15-year-old through Facebook and WhatsApp in November 2015. 

    The 20-year-old admitted a charge of attempting to arrange to meet a child following sexual grooming.

    Cordwell had nothing to do with the 15-year-old's death at the hands of Stephen Beadman, who was jailed for 35 years last summer.
