I'm on the corner of Keightley Road in New Parks where in front of me is the flat in question surrounded by armed police officers looking heavily protected.

There's also police tape blocking off half the road.

People inside their houses have been told they cannot leave and must keep their doors shut. Those on the other side of the cordon are not being allowed in.

I spoke to Samuel who was trying to get to a friend's house within the cordon but had been waiting for two hours.

It looks like police could be here for several hours yet.

    Inside Wygston House

Wygston’s House was built in the 15th Century.

In the photo above you can see the new bar - it's freestanding, which was one of the conditions imposed by the city council who have leased the building out.

  12. Protesters outside public meeting on Glenfield heart unit closure published at 08:50 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC Local Live

NHS bosses held a public meeting at Leicester Tigers stadium last night on their plans to stop performing children's heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital.

There were protesters outside the venue on Welford Road...

Thousands of people have signed a petition objecting to the plans but only about 100 tickets were made available for the meeting.

The BBC, and other media outlets, were not welcome inside the public consultation event.

After the meeting we did manage to speak to some people who were inside - one woman said: "They didn't answer all the questions in the meeting. They need to address a lot of it and they need to listen to those that are living it, not just look at figures on a piece of paper."

Another said: "It was very emotional. These guys were not answering the questions. They skirted around them and really didn't put anyone at ease."

A 16 week consultation on the proposed closure is now underway and closes in June.

A young child was also inside the home on Holland Crescent. Officers said she was unharmed and is now with family.

As you can see from this photo, the house has been cordoned off...

The woman was taken to hospital in an air ambulance yesterday afternoon and has been described as being "stable".

Police said it is not yet clear what caused the death of the man but they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

They also said the public does not need to worry about their own personal safety.
