    A man has been given a suspended sentence after admitting throwing a lit firework into a crowd of New Year's Eve revellers in Matlock.

    Shortly after midnight, the firework was thrown at people in Crown Square, resulting in a 20-year-old man and a woman (pictured) suffering burns to their back, arms and face. Their hearing was also damaged.

    Liam Dooley, 24, of Darley Dale, appeared at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Thursday, police said, external, where he was given a 28-week sentence, suspended for a year. He was also ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation.

    Derbyshire Police has released images of a trailer that was stolen from St Matthew's Church in Morley between 17:00 on Friday, March 31 and Monday, April 3. 

    The force said the trailer is manufactured by Ifor Williams and has "TY9450" stamped on the offside.

    A 33-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence after a man suffered a minor injury in a shooting in Old Basford, police have said.

    Police were called at 15:15 to reports of disturbance on Overdale Road where members of the public reported that shots had been fired.

    The injured 22-year-old man didn't require hospital treatment, the force added.  

    A cordon remains in place on Overdale Road and on part of Thorndale Road while officers continue house-to-house enquiries.

    A 32-year-old man who ran up to women and touched them inappropriately has been jailed for two-and-a-half years, Derbyshire Police said, external.

    The force said Nadeem Bhatti, of Queensway, targeted 15 women in the space of 18 days.   

    Bhatti was identified and arrested following the release of CCTV footage and an appeal for witnesses.

    He pleaded guilty to a string of assaults in and around Derby city centre in late December and early January this year and was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

    Spanish police have said eight Britons were arrested last night ahead of Leicester City's Champions League game tonight against Atletico Madrid.

    They were arrested for "causing a mess'". 

    Police said six of their officers were assaulted.

    The eight Brits, who remain in custody, will appear in court tomorrow where police said they're likely to be fined.

    It's being reported that the train maker Bombardier is in talks with rival firm Siemens about a possible merger. 

    According to media reports, the talks started earlier this year. 

    Analysts say a deal would help tackle growing competition from China.

    Bombardier's rail unit employs 3,500 staff in the UK, including its factory in Derby, and has built trains for operators including Greater Anglia, Scotrail and in London.

    Siemens employs 700 train workers in the UK and its contracts include supplying Eurostar trains.
