    The captain of Burton Albion says his side will be stronger next season for having played a maiden campaign at Championship level.

    John Mousinho has just signed a new one-year contract and played in the second tier for the first time last season, having captained the Brewers in all three Football League divisions.

    The 31-year-old admits the Brewers will no longer carry the element of surprise, but says the team, who were playing non-league football less than a decade ago, will be a tougher test for opponents.

    A 31-year-old woman has been killed in a crash on the A6 near Market Harborough.

    She was a passenger in a car that collided with another yesterday afternoon.

    The drivers of both cars, a 39-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, remain in hospital with serious injuries.

  6. Swiss World War One portraits exhibited in Nottinghampublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 5 June 2017

    An exhibition featuring 84 World War One portraits will go on display in Nottingham today.

    The portraits were produced by Eugene Burnand in Switzerland shortly before his death in 1921.

    The pieces of artwork, using coloured pencils, capture all the different nationalities that were fighting with the allies during the war.

    Doug Jenkinson, of Gotham, who is a distant ancestor of Eugene Burnand, has brought the piece to the city.

    More then 40 nations were represented in these pieces, including Pakistan, India and France.

    The exhibition will run until Saturday in the Nottingham Society of Artists Gallery in Friar Lane.

    A jury's been told a radio presenter accused of sex offences with underage boys is the victim of a cheap attempt to paint her as "salacious and predatory".

    Julie Wadsworth, 60, is on trial at Warwick Crown Court along with her husband Tony - both are charged with indecent assault and outraging public decency between 1992 and 1996.

    Her defence says she was damaged by a past abusive relationship.

    The couple, from Broughton Astley, Leicestershire, who have presented on BBC WM and BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, deny five counts of outraging public decency. Mrs Wadsworth has also pleaded not guilty to 11 charges of indecent assault, while her 69-year-old husband denies nine counts of the same offence.

    The trial continues.

    Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn visited Nottinghamshire on Saturday ahead of the general election on Thursday.

    Mr Corbyn started out by visiting Hucknall and then moved onto Beeston.

    Prime Minister, Theresa May, visited Pride Park Stadium, Derby, on 1 June as part of her election campaigning.

    Security at this week's Women's Tour of Britain and the RHS Chatsworth Show will be "continually reviewed" in light of the weekend's attacks in London, Derbyshire Police said.

    "Following the recent atrocities in Manchester and London, it is understandable people will feel worried about attending large events or venues," Assistant Chief Constable Chris Haward said.

    "We continually review the threat and risk levels for each event and, where appropriate, we will put additional police resources in place. In addition to this, we can call upon support from other forces in the UK if required."

    More than 90,000 tickets have been sold for the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show (7-10 June) and thousands of fans are expected to line the route of the Women's Tour through Chesterfield and Belper.

    There will be extra security at the races in Leicester this afternoon in the wake of the weekend's terrorist attacks in London.

    Adam Gowtage, the racecourse's operations and commercial manager, told the BBC there will be extra safety stewards on duty for the eight-race meeting that gets underway at 14:20.

    He added that the course will be continuing to use metal detectors on racegoers and bags entering the site on their "major" meetings on Saturday 17 June and Saturday 8 July.

    A 28-year-old man appeared before Leicester Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with rape.

    Paul Rodgers, who was a Special Constable with Leicestershire Police at the time of the alleged offence, denies the attack in June last year in Loughborough.

    Mr Rodgers, of no fixed address, is due at Leicester Crown Court on 3 July for a preliminary hearing ahead of a trial.

    It's the end of the road for Ilkeston FC - the football club has been has been wound up over unpaid debts.

    The Robins, who competed in the seventh tier of English football, were managed this season by Manchester City legend Shaun Goater.

    Armed officers were called to a tram stop following a report of a man with a weapon.

    Nottinghamshire Police arrested a man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after the incident on Wilkinson Street.

    The man, aged 28, is being questioned by officers following the incident, which happened at 10.45 yesterday.

    On Friday we told you about a man found seriously injured on Lower Brown Street in Leicester.

    Over the weekend, police confirmed the man, aged 63, died.

    He was found on Thursday night and taken to hospital in Nottingham. He's thought to have been hit by a vehicle.

    A 25-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested.

    Did you watch the One Love Manchester concert on the BBC last night?

    There were 50,000 people at the gig put on by Ariana Grande...

    Among the crowd were James Smith and fiance Georgina Foulk, from Alvaston. They were given free tickets because they were at the concert in Manchester Arena when 22 people were killed by a suicide bomber.

    James said they were "nervous" about going back to Manchester for the concert but they're glad they did.

    He said they did want to return to the city but had it not been for the concert, they probably wouldn't have gone back so soon.

    At a lot of big events you can get people pushing, shoving and not being very kind, but James said he saw none of that last night.

    He said: "Everyone was respectful to one another. It was a really nice place to be.

    "The slogan being used is 'a city united' and it really does feel like that."
