The heart-broken mother of two brothers Adam and Matthew spoke of "the most difficult time".
A message read on behalf of the Sally Stokes thanked friends, Adam and Matthew's friends, and the whole community for all uniting together.
She also thanked the police, church, school, her counsellor and the medical staff who treated her.
During the service, friends and family heard how Adam "enjoyed life" listening to music on YouTube, playing on his Xbox and enjoying rugby and football with friends.
Matthew was "extremely happy" - Rev John Whittaker said he loved his mum and was very affectionate to her.
The boys' headteacher, Rachel Ayres, of St Mary's Church of England primary school also paid tribute to the boys.
She said fellow pupils were still "struggling to come to terms" with their deaths and that the school had been left "deeply shocked and saddened by the deaths".
The school had been closed at lunchtime as a mark of respect to the youngsters.

More than 100 mourners, including school friends, have gathered at a church in Hinckley to pay their respects to Adam Stokes, 11, and his five-year-old brother Matthew.
Seven months ago their bodies were discovered by police at their home in the town. The boys' father was also found dead inside the house on Welwyn Road in November last year, having suffered a stab wound.
The family have had to wait until now to be able to lay the children to rest.
As the coffins arrived at church, their mother broke down in tears and was comforted by close family.
Each coffin was topped with a single rose; one red, the other blue.
Five-year-old Matthew's coffin was accompanied by a Minion character, arranged in flowers of yellow and blue, while his older brother's arrived with a floral rugby ball.
The boys had been close in life, and on the end of each coffin was a photograph them arm-in-arm.

It is hoped a number of 3D scans of some of Derby's most well known buildings will encourage more visitors to come to the city.
The virtual reality versions of buildings, including Derby Cathedral, can now be explored online., external
Richard Shaw, from the company which developed the map, added that he sees it being used by a number of different types of people.
"There are obviously people that for physical and health reasons are unable to climb 189 steps in the Cathedral," he told BBC Radio Derby.
"So for those people they wouldn't be able to explore that space in real life anyway."

A 17-year-old man from Melbourne said he crashed into a house when he swerved to avoid hitting a cat.
It happened last Friday in Chellaston...
The driver - who did not want to be named - told the BBC he was driving down Parkway at about 30mph when a cat ran out.
He said: "I swerved to the right and the back of the car went out, I then swerved to the left and lost control - I couldn't bring it back."
Managing to avoid two parked cars and a tree he ended up in the wall - "it was a big impact."
He said swerving to avoid the cat was a "natural reaction" but he claims he is still in shock from hitting the wall.
After the crash he managed to get out of the car and went to hospital. He has since been discharged but said he still has some pains in his leg and neck.
Police have reported the driver for driving without due care or attention. He will be asked to appear in court at a later date.
Outgoing Oxford United head coach Michael Appleton says his successor will inherit a club in "a very good place".
